The movie comic book fans and nerdy geeks have been waiting for is now available for viewing.
The Hype is real on this one.
Spider-Man: No Way Home.
This is Spoiler Free but there are hints and clues in this sort of review. More of a reflection really.
Ticket sales have been through the roof. Some vultures hoping to prey on people’s fandom urge to see the ultimate live-action Spider-Man were scalping tickets online for $20,000. Not sure if anyone actually was desperate and foolish enough to shell out that much money to see it. I managed to get a seat by going on Fandango and paid $14.00 and saw a 6:15 PM showing, which started after 30 minutes of previews. Why that many previews?
Not only does this film bring a conclusion to the last movie ‘Far From Home’, it brings together elements from the previous Spider-Man movies such as the Green Goblin, Sandman and Doc Ock from the Toby MaGuire films and The Lizard and Electro from the Andrew Garfield films. What? No other villian to finish out the Sinister 6? We also have Benedict Cumberbatch back as Dr. Strange and J. K. Simmons back as J. Jonah Jameson. Peter’s GF MJ and best bud sidekick have a significant amount of hero stuff to do as do Happy Hogan and Aunt May. Plus Wong makes an appearance. It is a smorgosburg of pure fandom that SM fanatics have been waiting for. NWH brings everything together in one entertaining 2 hour plus movie.
So I’m going to Scooby-Doo this review and tell you
Some things you’ll experience while watching this film include…
- Tying In and Tying Up loose ends in other Spider-Man movies including the animated one.
- The Joy of seeing several actors back in their iconic roles.
- New Magical equipment attached to Spidey’s suit.
- Math Beating Magic.
- Cool fight scenes in the mirror universe, condo buildings, the freeway, the electric grid on the outskirts of town and a historic NY landmark with a giant replica of Cap’s shield.
- It has fan service with a purpose.
- The memory of Tony Stark.
- The fact that the Avengers don’t exist in all universes.
- Lots of portals.
- How doing the right thing can have consequences that can push you to the limit.
- A display of how our better selves sometimes stops us from being our badder self.
- Star Wars Easter Egg.
- A preview of Multiverse of Madness.
- New Additions to the MCU from other Marvel features. HINT They just introduced King Pin in Hawkeye episode # 5.
- New Powers given to already established characters.
- Self-Sacrifices made for the benefit of the whole world.
The Sanctity of Human Life
This is displayed in it’s full glory when Spidey decides to give mercy and second chances to people who want to kill and gain power for themselves. Instead of killing in self-defence he chooses to try to redeem the harden heart. Sounds alot like what some recent popes have been telling us. Sounds alot like Jesus. Spider-Man decides against the death penalty when he could have easily have inflicted it on his foes in self defence.
If you want a fun time at the movies with action, darkness, surprises, fun, comedy and a good moral compass, you will want to go No Way Home.
Here is an Advent mediation I wrote for SP:NWH
In Advent we don’t just wait for Jesus to symbolically arrive in Bethlehem or spiritually arrive in our hearts, we await for him at the end of Time when he will come in his full glory bringing with him saints and angels and all of heaven with him. Just like this new SM will bring in everything in the Spidey universe, the second coming of Jesus will bring everything from the actual universe together to stand before the throne. It will bring more joy and excitement then the most ambitious comic book movie coming out this day. It will bring tears and sorrow for some also. That is why this Advent is a time to prepare for Jesus to come into our hearts once again so that when He does come a second time, will be ready.
Here is a more fleshed out review.
