This week Pope Francis beatified a whole family who stood up to the Nazi’s. The Catholic family is known as “Markowa Samaritans,”. Józef and Wiktoria Ulma and their seven children took Jesus in to their homes when they sheltered Jewish families from the evil German regime in World War 2 Poland. They took the Road Not Taken by so many others. Including Kristin and I as we went to the High Kings The Road Not Taken concert in Newport R.I. Here is what else happened last week.

hot girl summer has ended and spooky girl autumn approaches. we’re summoning the crow army, building a Wicker Man in our backyard, and reluctantly enjoying the riches left by the deaths of our third and fourth husbands.
summer has lasted approximately one hundred years and I’m ready for cool misty air and leafy streets and pumpkins in windows and steaming mugs of cider and sidewalks crowded with little ghosts and witches.

Quote of the Day
Owl! at the Library ♀️@SketchesbyBoze (Sep 9, 2023)
I wish I could reach back in time and tell my teenage self, depressed and bullied, “This world is so much bigger and weirder than you can imagine. You’re going to encounter mind-altering books and songs and ideas, and bloom in strange ways, and none of these people will matter.”“The joy you’ll feel the first time you hear Belle & Sebastian, or read the fairytales of Rabbi Nachman, or wander down the cobbled alleys of Edinburgh on a misty blue morning… keep your mind open, keep your heart open. There’s still so much to discover, and everything is holy.”

May this Polish family, which represented a ray of light in the darkness of the Second World War, be for all of us a model to imitate in zeal for goodness and service to those in need.-
Quotes of the Day
Matt Swaim@mattswaim (September 10, 2023) Today at Mass, I sat surrounded by fellow parishioners I know to be variously fans of the Ravens and Steelers, Eagles and Cowboys, Bills, Commanders and Patriots. And I, a Bengals fan, received Holy Communion with them all. The universality of the Church is an astounding thing.A Catholic Adventurer@forthequeenbvm (September 10, 2023)
One of the most important lessons to teach your children is how to be bored; to be comfortable with waiting, with quiet, with lack of stimulation/stimulus and movement. To be comfortable with the absence of things that are distracting or even interesting. To be at peace with their own thoughts.
God speaks to us in whispers. He won’t compete with noise.
