My Write Wish List

My Write Wish List March 21, 2024

I try to write 2 posts a week which can be sometimes challenging. Especially when it is after midnight and I’m feeling the wrestling match of wanting to go to bed and also wanting to get my writing urges out of my system. Blog posts can always be shorter or longer, more detailed or less, more exciting or just more matter of fact. Hopefully humorous and engaging. Having engaged readers is one of the main goals of any writer.

Like George Lucas with Star Wars their can always be an updated version with revisions and added material to make it more extensive. And this post is likely to be one of them. With that said on to my

Explanatory Intro To This Blog Post

Many people create To Do Lists, Reading Lists, Wish Lists and various other types of lists. Lists give us a summarized tally of the things that we need to do, should do, want to do, and hope to do in a easy to read format. They can be detailed giving explanation of those things spelled out so we don’t lack any idea of what are responsibilities dreams, hopes or desires are. But perhaps bullet points containing a quick summary in perhaps as few words as possible will trigger those paragraphs of information stored in our head when we see those points laid out neatly in a row so we don’t have to spend as much time reading our thoughts and save time.

As a blogger and writer on social media I have the write type of wish list. This consists of Writing I am doing, Will do, Hope to do, and Sounds like it might be cool to do. It also consists of activities and other related things associated with writing that make writing possible.

What type of writing wish list do you have?
Here is mind off the top of my head.

My Writing Wish List

1. Find a Way to Fix My Insomnia – In order for a writer to write they need mental energy. If your tired from lack of sleep, it’s harder to concentrate, focus, remember, meditate, contemplate and other cognitive functions it takes to gather information and then reassemble it back into coherent creatively crafted words woven into paragraphs to convey interesting ideas and stories worth remembering and sharing. The more your brain can function the more effective you will be as a writer. You will then have more energy to do repetitive tasks such as rereading your material so you can adequately proofread your goofy grammar and spelling errors and rethink some of your daft thoughts and poorly thought out plot points in your narrative.

2. Get My Friends and Family To Actually Read What I Write – I have lots off friends in real life and in the unreal world of social media. I would like those I have struck up a relationship with or have been gifted a relationship through family to actually read what I strive to convey on cyber paper. This goes especially for my writing and lifelong partner who came up with the name of this blog.

3. I would Like Others To Contribute To This Blog-  I have had guest writers in the past and I would like more of them. I would like Kristin the Carmelite (the other half of this team) to contribute much more along with some of my closest friends who have skills with the pen. But I would also like other like minded individuals to offer something unique and wonderful to our mission of creating blog posts worth reading, remembering and sharing.

4. Start a Conversation– I don’t want just a number of views, likes and thumbs up when people glance or gaze at our material. I want to see comments, questions, concerns and in-depth thoughts. I want to know what others think about what I or Kristin wrote. I want to know what you liked and what you didn’t. I don’t want a passive static response but something alive and engaging. Like these comments from Become Irish In 2024 In 24 Easy Steps | Want To Become Irish? Here’s How To Do So. (patheos.com)

Patrick: My Mom is from County Cork

Myers: Aye me boy. Tis been done by dear old great great grandma-ma n grandpa-pa sailing from beautiful Tipperary and coming to rural New York in the early 1850s. They said they didn’t like the snakes here.

5. I Want to Write More Movie Reviews – I would have written a review of the new Mark Wahlberg film Arthur the King, but felt too tired to go out after work on $5.00 movie night. I could have picked up a discounted movie ticket  for $ 9.50 at work  so I could have seen it earlier tonight after work, but again felt to tired. I will have to wait for the affordable streaming option to become available and will maybe write it later. If not Arthur I know other movies are waiting to be written about. Both past, present and future. Someday maybe studios will send me screeners in advance so I can write about the movie in advance. Not sure how I would get to that point or how others get to that point.

Here is the example of something I would like to write at some point.

6. Redevelop my video skills I once practiced on a more regular basis and have a bachelor’s degree in and make Youtube and Tiktok videos and even podcasts.

7. Interview different Catholic writers and have them talk about their books. Which would mean I would have to actually read the books. I would have to take the time to do so which would take away time from browsing the internet so I could find books I wanted to put on my book list.

8. Develop a particular creative writing style that others will want to read and share. Like this…

Old Hollow Tree@OldHollowTree: Good morning. It is the 20th of March.

The equinox comes and goes and we gnash our teeth that it is not suddenly spring.

This is fine.

The snow makes fertile ground for dreaming. We load the hearth, pick up our gardening and livestock books, and we wait another week.

and

Owl! at the Library ‍♀️@SketchesbyBoze (Mar 19, 2024)
we place too much emphasis on “being a success” and not enough on reading in the bath and being able to make a particularly good crumble and getting excited about a new kind of bird

in@joynessthebrave’s new book YOU ARE A TREE, she notes how we can get so caught up in the pursuit of success that we neglect the secret, nourishing, life-giving things that help us to function as people, and there’s much truth in that.

9. Continue writing about different points in history such as 1889 which is the year Mother Cabrini came to America and Mrs. J.R.R. Tolkien, Adolf Hitler and Charlie Chaplin were all born. Not to mention the Eiffel Tower was first opened to the public and other interesting things happened.

10. Help someone laugh, wonder or engage with a story or idea. Because this is a Catholic blog and not strictly a blog about just interesting things, this would hopefully include showcasing the beauty, goodness and truth of Christ and the Catholic faith and helping to spread gospel message of forgiveness and inviting others to receive joy, faith, and hope so they can love God in spirit and in truth making them fully alive so they can perform the spiritual and corporal works of mercy effectively. Thus we do write about spiritual things as well as regular stuff non-religious people might read at The Catholic Bard.

11. I want to continue to write about how great other people’s writings and creative endeavors are. Both Catholic and non-Catholic. I try to stay away from slamming others and how their bad ideas are hurting the world. Sometimes you need to correct corrupted content, but it is better to write about what you like and not what bugs the crap out of you. At some point I would like to write something about the comeback song of Billy Joel.

12. Kristin and I want to publish a book so we can get a table at the next R.I. Authors expo. It would be a list of her poetry.

Why?

We laugh and then we cry.
We are born and then we die.
We just keep going,
Always knowing
Change is on the way;
But somehow this is okay.
And sometimes I stop to wonder,
Why God invented thunder.
And in all His glory be,
Why God invented me.

There are other ideas floating around waiting to come out. But I think this is a start and a good end to these flow of my hearts thoughts. This is my writing wish and to do list. Its’ now close to 1:00 AM and time to try to go to bed. Not sure if insomnia will let me lay in peace.

So what is your Writing Wish and To Do List?

If you like this post, please send along a comment so we can converse.

Conversation makes reading more alive and gives the writer more energy for his next post.

Now that this post is done it is time to work on my Easter contribution for his year. It’s a non-binding obligation for bloggers to post something particular on a specific day with a special meaning. If not the muse will come and snatch away your creative juices and leave you alone in a dessert of blank ideas and canvases’ leaving you to gravel at neglecting something like Easter or National Beaver and Beer Day.

It’s now 3:25 A.M. and I have a few more thinks that have been parading around in my thoughts.

13. Educate Myself More – Kristin got MasterClass for me for Christmas. I haven’t been using it as much as I should. I want to start so I don’t let her financial output for the gift go to waste. I would also like to sign up for the Word on Fire Institute at one point as they have some interesting and intriguing looking classes I would like to plunge my brain into. On a related similar note I also have this card game my sister in-law gave me for Christmas I haven’t used yet. This is often the case for things I buy, which is why I try not to buy too many things.

14. I Want to Live My Life More– Visit more people and places so I can use them for blog material. We went on 1 of several different tours at the Lizzie Borden house about a half hour from where I live. I want to go back to the other tour we didn’t take. Great opportunities for blog material that would reflect on life, death, sin and God’s grace.

I also used to visit my friends a lot more than I used to. I’ve gotten away from that and I think I should start doing that more.

15. Have an more active prayer life, for the sake of loving and filling myself with God’s presence. That will also help with writing because I will have more of God in me to guide my choices in how I infuse spiritual material into my writings as well as my everyday life.

16. Other things I haven’t thought of yet but will come to me as soon as I log off and try to go back to bed.
