Gaia: Saving Her, Saving Ourselves
“Next appeared Earth, so the gods would have some place to stand,” The Coming of All Things, The Greek Creators – from In the Beginning, Virginia Hamilton
At the beginning of creation, there are stories of Gaia giving birth to all beings, the first to emerge from Chaos, according to translations of Greek mythology. A female being, one who could give birth, and one who may have given birth to wondrous and monstrous beings. She is the creatrix to some, the earth itself, the Earth Herself.
Gaia is a goddess of greatness and vastness. How does one describe one who is everywhere, everything? Far too often, she has been described as the Earth and someone separate from humans. But this separation is incorrect, unhelpful, and often damaging. When the godds are distanced, and far away, they can become someone you can only shout at, not take the hand of as you face the present moment.
The separation is not a natural one, but it is a common creation of capitalism, patriarchy, and other oppressive structures. When there is space (real or imagined) between what is happening and why it is happening, those left to watch feel helpless and small. Gaia seems like an idea more than an ally. She becomes the small voice in the background, even though she might be screaming for help.

Aphrodite & Love Spells for the Tired Heart 2024
The beauty of Aphrodite comes not from Her skin or the way flowers arose when She stepped on the shore. The wonder of Aphrodite comes from the presence that she offers, the changing ways to look at the way a heart beats and who it beats for.
With all of her aspects and stories, She continues to offer insights and opportunities to know Her and to know ourselves better. For what is the world without love? How can we live without love? If we can continuously meet Her and meet the way She shows up unapologetically, we may too be able to step forward from our own ocean onto the shore of a fuller, richer life.
Aphrodite offers love and beauty, but also initiation. She offers initiation into the mysteries of love, the way it is everything we want and sometimes everything we fear. She tells us and shows us that the way to a heart is through the everyday actions, the everyday words, and the promise to show up fully as ourselves.
She shows us that we can have stories and faults and missteps and still emerge.
She tells us that we can be beauty and we are beauty, in all of our days.
She reminds us that the way of magick and wonder is love.
You may be tired.
Let Aphrodite hold you.
