A "Specter" and Socialism

A "Specter" and Socialism

I come back from a busy day to find quite a lot had changed. To begin, it looks like you and I are now the majority shareholders in General Motors. Rather poor move no matter how I examine it. I’ve resisted the evil “S” word (that’s Socialism) seeing many statements of it as premature and more based on rants than reason. However, this looks like a textbook example of government running of a massive section of private industry. Hence if I don’t use it here, I don’t know when I could, ever.

Next, we have PA Senator Arlen Specter switching to the Democratic Party. I’m sure the Democratic Party is happy to get his vote, though they can’t be that happy to have his person. Jonathan Chait’s New Republic headline sums it up perfectly:  “Unprincipled Hack.” And that from a writer and a publication that is staunchly Democrat and fiercely liberal. Best quote from the article:  “If his [Specter] best odds of keeping his Senate seat lay in joining the Communist party, he’d probably do that.”

The two moves certainly connect in the rather shallow narcissism in our public dealings and discourse. But, alas, to go into that would take too long for this post.
