Peace of foolishness

Peace of foolishness October 10, 2009

Why would President Obama get the Nobel Peace Prize when he really has done nothing tangible to deserve it? He certainly was not pressing for it, nor is it in any real way his fault. Instead, the only reasons I can think are this:

1) This is a slap at former President Bush (note that Jimmy Carter’s 2002 prize was explicitly said by the nobel chairman to be an attack on then-current US foreign policy) or

2) an attempt to comment on potential future actions by the President (as he faces tough decisions in Afghanistan, Iran, and elsewhere where military action is still on the table).

Either way, it is silly that he got the award. The award is far too political in the crass and base sense of the word, failing to recognize merit and meant to make cheap points. Further, I hope and trust President Obama will ignore it as far as his policy decisions go.
