Top 7 Bible Verses For A College Graduate

Top 7 Bible Verses For A College Graduate June 22, 2015

Here are my top 7 Bible verses for a college graduate or even a high school graduate.

Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”

The basic instruction for the college graduate is the same advice that God gives to us all, “be not wise in your own eyes” (Prov 3:7) but trust in God with your whole heart. You can’t lean on your own understanding any more than you can lean on air. If you acknowledge God in all of your ways, He’s going to straighten the crooked paths. If you trust in yourself, you are choosing your own path and there is no guarantee that you’ll have an easy path in life but every chance the way will be narrow and chocked full of hazards.

Psalm 28:7 “How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word. With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments!”

You can just as easily make this “How can a young woman keep her way pure” because this is a universal law for young and old men and women. By seeking God with your whole heart and not wandering or straying from God’s commandments, you will be able to keep your way of life pure. Those who choose to sin choose to suffer and there are always consequences for young and old alike who live or don’t live according to the law of God. No one can say that the Ten Commandments are not still relevant. How can “thou shall not murder” or “thou shall not steal” ever be irrelevant?

Psalm 37:4 “Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”

How can a young graduate receive the desires of their heart? They must first put their delight in God and if you are delighting in God you are delighting in obedience to Him and His commands. A definition of the word “delight” is to have great satisfaction and joy in something (or someone) that gives great pleasure; to satisfy greatly; to please and that is the key to finding the desires of your heart and “When a man’s (or woman’s) ways please the Lord, he makes even his (or her) enemies to be at peace with him (or her)” (Prov 16:7).

Trust-in-the-Lord-with

Colossians 3:23-24 “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.”

If you think you are really working for an employer you are actually working for God because even a pagan king’s heart (and an unsaved employer) are like channels of water in the hands of God and He directs them wherever He wills (Prov 21:1) so first and foremost you work for God and you are serving Him in whatever you do and your reward will not be from men but someday it will come directly from the Lord Himself.

Deuteronomy 31:8 “The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

Just as in the case with ancient Israel, God went before Israel in the wilderness, God’s Word promises that He will go before or ahead of you and is going to be with you meaning that He will never leave you or forsake you, even if you forsake Him for a time. This is why we need not be afraid or discouraged.

Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

I understand that this verse was not actually written to Christians but to the nation of Israel who were in captivity but the principle of God having plans for us is certainly true. God never calls anyone that He does not have plans for and He never blesses anyone which harms them. He has plans for the Christian graduate and these plans include both a hope and a future; an earthly future that He can bless in the here and now but in time eternity, for all time.

First Timothy 4:12 “Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.”

It’s hard to despise a young graduate who sets a godly example in their speech, in the conduct of their life, in love, in faith, and in purity. These are things that are evidences of the Holy Spirit’s indwelling in the young believer and they will take the graduate far in this present, evil world because as I wrote before, if your “ways please the Lord, he makes even his (or her) enemies to be at peace with him (or her)” (Prov 16:7).

Conclusion

I pray that the graduates that read this or that these verses might be used for can bring glory to God in the way that they live their lives and by this, they can bring light into a dark, dead, and decaying world. Right now, the world needs the love of God more than at any other time in human history and you, young graduate, can be that conduit that draws others to Christ so that they too might be saved.
