Top 7 Bible Verses About the Will Of God

Top 7 Bible Verses About the Will Of God June 25, 2015

What is God’s will? What is the will of God for my life? These are just a few of the questions that come to mind when a discussion arises about this topic. Fortunately, the Bible tells us a lot about the Lord’s desire for his children, so here are my top 7 Bible Verses about the will of God.

Mark 3:35 “For whoever does the will of God, he is my brother and sister and mother.”

This is a great verse to begin a discussion on the will of God, because Jesus himself spoke these words to the disciples and to the other Jews around him. He explained to them that whoever does God’s will actually becomes a part of his family. This was a very important point in Jesus’ ministry, as he emphasized how obedience to God opens the door for us to become his sons and daughters and co-heirs of the Kingdom of God.

John 9:31b “…but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does his will, God listens to him.”

Bible Verses About The Will Of God

I really like this passage, because it emphasizes several key points on the topic of doing God’s will. First of all, it states that being a worshiper of God and doing his will are synonymous. Secondly, it reminds us that when we obey the Lord, that he listens to us and to our prayers. Lastly, this verse is a wake-up call to everyone about the importance of doing the Lord’s will at all times.

Romans 12:2 “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

The Lord wants us to stand mature and fully assured in the will of God. This can only be accomplished if we refuse to be conformed to the world and instead are transformed by the renewing of our minds by Jesus Christ. Doing this will allow us to discern what is the will of God, so that we can know, understand and then do what is good and acceptable and perfect, as stated in this verse. God loves us so much, and he wants to empower us to do his will in all areas of our lives.

Galatians 1:4 “…who gave himself for our sins to deliver us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father…”

Jesus, himself, knew and understood the will of his Father, and he obeyed it in every situation. This is overtly evident in the fact that he died and gave himself on the cross for our sins, so that we could be delivered from eternal darkness. It was God’s will that humanity have the opportunity to choose salvation over death by believing and confessing that Christ is our Lord and Savior. God loves mankind so much, and he wants to have a close and intimate relationship with us where we love him unashamedly as well.

I Thessalonians 5:8 “…give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

Gratitude, giving thanks, and a grateful heart are all part of God’s will for our daily lives. There are numerous passages encouraging us as Christians to be thankful for all that God has given us, and to appreciate the blessings we have in life. Obviously, this verse clearly states that it is also God’s will for our lives in Christ Jesus. I once heard a statement that has resonated with me as an important truth even until now, and it is that one of the most significant signs of a mature Christian is their level of gratitude and ability to be thankful for everything in their lives. This verse confirms that it is God’s heart for us, because being grateful also will bring us much more joy.

I Peter 2:15 “For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people.”

Another important way of being obedient to God’s will for our lives is to do good whenever opportunities present themselves. The apostle Peter reminds us that when we do this, that we are silencing the ignorance of foolish people. In other words, we will deny our enemies the opportunity to criticize our actions, while also honoring our Father, representing him, and doing his will.

I John 2:17 “And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.”

God’s word is clear—if we do the Lord’s will, then we will receive the gift of eternal life. What a great way to wrap up a discussion on obeying the Lord and following his plans for our lives. This verse ties in perfectly with what it says in Hebrews 10:36, “For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised.” Yes, we may get tired sometimes, but the Lord is always there to strengthen and encourage us in our journey with him, and the reward is beyond compare. If we do the will of God from our hearts, he will then grant us eternal life with him.

CONCLUSION

God has an awesome and amazing plan for each of our lives, and he is continually calling us to follow him and do his will. He wants to have a close relationship with us—like that of a loving father with his children—and his will for us includes calling us to be worshipers, having a discerning spirit, a grateful heart, and doing good to others among other things. The result of obedience will not only bless us with a life pleasing to God, but it will usher us into his family and eventually into an eternal home with him.

God has been good to me over the years, and I have much for which to be grateful to Him. First of all, I feel blessed to be the pastor’s wife of a thriving church in northern Michigan and the mother of four amazing grown children. It is also very rewarding to be a Christian author, editor and translator for the Kingdom of God. Some of my favorite pastimes include supporting my children’s contemporary Christian band ONLY9AM, singing on the worship team at church, traveling, and connecting with family and friends via social media. When I am not working, I love spending time with my family and especially with my precious three-year-old grandson.
