Few of us were surprised when we heard the clip of Sarah Palin making the uncouth and insensitive remark at the National Rifle Association meeting about how “waterboarding is how we baptize terrorists
.” Clearly she lacks self-awareness or will do or say anything to grab a headline.
The unfortunate and disturbing truth is that she speaks on behalf a subset of Christian culture in the Unite States. Though this subset of Christian extremists is shrinking, it is one that still embraces the violent rhetoric and actions of the Crusades that Christians are to reach to all corners of the earth, emboldened with a “be assimilated or be eliminated.”
