I don’t think I’ve ever been quite as excited about receiving something I don’t get to keep.
Just this morning, I posted a request to do a “trade-up” to help raise resources necessary to feed 5,000 people. As part of my 18-month project to try and follow Jesus, like for real, I figure taking on the fishes-and-loaves miracle, in which 5,000 people were fed, is a good starting point. Though I don’t start my “Jesus year” for a few more months, I figure raising the needed cash will take a while, so I started this bartering campaign to get us going.
Our goal is to trade all the way up to something (or things, services, tickets or whatever) worth at least $25,000-$30,000. I started with six of my own books (signed, woohoo!), which were valued at about $100. Just a few minutes ago, I received a message from a friend of mine, Caedmon, who is willing to trade his Trek mountain bike for the books! We make the swap tomorrow, and I’m throwing in a tour of my world-famous beer “keezer” (keg freezer) system (complete with samples) for good measure.
Though the value of the bike new was several hundreds of dollars, a similar used bike is currently for sale online for $300. So now, the next step is to find someone who wants a mountain bike to make another trade-up with me. The only requirement is that the item to be traded has to be valued fairly easily at or above $300 so we can make progress toward our goal.
So who’s in? shoot me a message at cpiatt(at)christianpiatt(dot)com, or hit me up on twitter, facebook or leave a comment below. Let’s keep the good momentum going! You can also visit the Craigslist page here. And be sure to spread the word so others can participate in this project.
