Has its perks. Not that Pope Francis necessarily endorsed one candidate or the other, but he chose to aim his comments at one particular side of the presidential race. Since he chose to focus on one set of problems unique to one side of the contest while not necessarily touching too much on the other side, it’s clear where the focus is on this election day. By doing that, those Catholics who either support Hillary, or at least will vote against Trump, can rest assured. If not explicitly, then at least implicitly, they have Rome at their back.
