By Ben Butera.  Ben blogs over at the always interesting and entertaining “Two Catholic Men and a Blog.”  Faith With Good Reason is a page turner. I was reading a book subtitled “Finding Truth Through an Analytical Lens” and actually lost track of time.  But enough of  my poor attempt to speak to the book’s quality, go to Amazon and order a copy for yourself. As a bonus, the royalties will be going to “Mystic Monks” in Wyoming, as well as other Catholic causes.... Read more

Even in our little piece of suburbia, the real world can make an appearance every now and then. Read more

According to this article, the ongoing narrative that Isis is the result of poor, uneducated people oppressed by Western Capitalism might not be true.  I know that’s hard to believe.  After all, we’ve only spent 15 years hearing that Islamic terrorism is the result of poor, uneducated people oppressed by Western Capitalism, only to find out that, as often as not, the perpetrators and planners are middle class to wealthy individuals with college educations, many living in the West itself.   Narratives... Read more

I watched the first half hour or so of the second debate.  That was about all I could stomach.  As Hillary begins to wonder what curtains she wants in the White House, and Bill begins to ponder being America’s first husband, I have to say I’m stoic.  I’ll pray, for our country, for the candidates, our leaders, and whoever our president (Hillary) will be.  But I will not vote for either of them. With Hillary we will see four more... Read more

Donald McClarey, over at The American Catholic, has some great information about Columbus and Columbus Day.  Read away and enjoy.  I particularly like his point that while we revile the imperialist Columbus and decry the next 500 years of American settlements and colonization, we continue to laud Islam as that wonderful, beautiful religion, even as decedents of those swept away by the Turks continue to live in oppression, terror and even death.  See my previous post about what this says... Read more

Here are a couple old posts I noodled about Columbus Day and the closing jaws of PC sensitivities that will soon see that day go the way of Jacksonian 20 dollar bills.   I seriously doubt the eradication of the Western tradition will stop there.  Even in elementary school, we didn’t learn about Columbus as some saintly god being, but as a flawed man who did bad in a violent age, but who also performed amazing feats of courage and daring... Read more

It’s off to the Renaissance Festival, then yet another local Festival, fun Halloween season excursions, and a day off in celebration of Columbus Day (though I might link to some earlier posts that explain my take on Columbus and his legacy).  I’ll be back to respond to comments, post more and basically enjoy everyone’s input and insights on Tuesday.  I’ll try to get back on Disqus then.  For some reason, I’m out of it and can’t seem to get back... Read more

The Wall Street Journal has a piece on the growing PC infringement on the creativity of fiction authors and others in the world of make believe.  Apparently the crux of the issue is that authors are being told they can’t write perspectives they haven’t personally experienced.  I know that point has been made before.  I seem to remember Spike Lee going after Clint Eastwood for a movie that would involve an African American.  Mr. Lee suggested that Eastwood, being white, had no reason for making... Read more

Has never been more appropriate.  I’m sure people saw one of the more hilarious products of this year’s Twilight Zone style election.  That is a video produced by a cadre of Hollywood actors who took time off of their million dollar schedules to remind us not to vote for Trump.  Not that Trump can say much about being against big business or being one of us little people.  But this video, in connection with Hillary’s ill planned two week vacation with... Read more

For the funeral of six year old Jacob Hall, a call went out for everyone to come dressed as superheroes.  And so they did.  And not just at the funeral, but around the world.  That divine spark is never too far below the surface, if we’ll just let it out.  God bless these people for coming together for the family and for Jacob, and God bless him and may perpetual light shine upon him. Read more
