I waited a week for things to die down.  I know, it’s always best to enter the fray while everyone is talking about it, but sometimes I’d rather sit and watch how things play out. These are some thoughts that came to me as I first heard, and then listened to the responses throughout the week. First, I was shocked she chose 50%.   Anyone older than 40 knows that since at least the 80s, if not earlier, associating non-liberals with these things... Read more

I immediately look for mainstream news sources.  That’s not to say a partisan source is automatically wrong.  I just prefer to see if there is really a story out there, and not a story we  hope will be out there. Well, it turns out another example of why we homeschool is, in fact, true.   The basic mantra of the post-Christian Left is that white, European and American, heterosexual, Christian men are the primary source of evil in history and... Read more

My most favoritest time of year!  It begins with Fall, the best season of all, and goes straight through Easter.   The rest of the year I more or less hibernate.   I can’t abide hot weather, though a brief visit to warmer climes is tolerable.  But those years I lived in Florida were torture.  My first week in Kentucky after I moved to Seminary was like paradise.  Real trees.  Real horizons.   And that Fall?  Magic.   I’ve written several times... Read more

And cheer on Samantha Bee, then dare I say you’re part of the problem. Read more

I’m OK with that.  First, because of family ties, I follow the Cleveland Browns.  That means I have nothing to lose.   Second, as I’ve said before, the millionaires can do on the field what they want.  That’s their right.  Fans and others can disagree and act accordingly.  That’s their right.  And as the NCAA has made clear, there is nothing more noble than boycotting for a cause. We were covering the events leading up to the Declaration of Independence... Read more

This it the type of story that makes me yawn.  It’s the sort of thing the news media (and yes, that includes FOX) loves to do to sow divisions between anyone, and encourage resentment and focus on me or my particular movement or group. For me?  I’m only somewhat sympathetic.  We began homeschooling for several reasons, not the least of which was the poor quality of education my boys were receiving.  It was made easier, however, when in the very year... Read more

Ah, I remember the dark years when sports was supposed to be a pure pastime, not tainted by ugly political opinions.  Back when Rush Limbaugh was hired by ESPN, and so many objected because Limbaugh was so political.  Even as recently as Tim Tebow’s infamous Super Bowl commercial, when we were again reminded that such social and political commentary should be kept hell and gone from the hallowed grounds of athletic competition. Whew, thank goodness we’re done with that.  I... Read more

So Cardinal Schönborn has warned about the possible invasion of Europe.  And the invaders?  That would be Islam.  It’s nothing new.  I hope most readers are aware of the fact that while Europeans were slaughtering their way through the New World, at Europe’s back door the Ottomans were, once again, attempting to do the same to Europe.  The difference is the Ottomans failed.  Not that the Islamic world didn’t reach in and subjugate certain portions of Christian civilization for a time.... Read more

Courtesy of The American Catholic.  The takeaway here is that most attempts to compromise Christianity with modern, secular progressive ideals has resulted in declining membership, attendance and involvement.   I won’t say in every case, but the majority of Protestant traditions that attempted the compromise have seen plummeting memberships.   I was friends with a UCC pastor who admitted (this being around 2005) that the UCC likely wouldn’t exist in another generation.  Whether they are worried about such things or... Read more

Once again, the economic news is positive.  Scott Pelley, on the CBS Evening News, called it “Great!”  Serious Tony the Tiger enthusiasm there.  And it shouldn’t be surprising.  On the whole, we’ve been on a continual, seven year long recovery since around 2009.  Almost every news cast has looked at some positive indicator, or lamented the fact that Americans weren’t feeling the positive vibes.  Now, that’s not to say the reporting doesn’t mention the problems.  And we all know the... Read more
