To a cat, no! has a very special meaning. To them, it means, don’t do it when they can catch you. The hospital chaplain I’ve nicknamed the Prevaricating Preacher) had the same conception of the word.

PP lied to Keith when he said he didn’t know I was an atheist. Twice. He lied again to Keith when he said he would stop coming around to see me.

Then, PP lied by omission to my Jewish-atheist mom by not mentioning his promises to Keith to leave me alone. And then he implied that I would be healed if only I believed in God.

For cats, all it takes is a spritz from a water bottle to impress on them the true meaning of no. The Hulk has nothing on my mom when she’s angry.
