"You are called to be missionaries of God's love…" July 14, 2011

That’s part of the message contained in Archbishop Jose Gomez’s recent homily at the diaconate ordination for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.  It’s rare to find a homily for a deacon ordination online, but I stumbled on this, and thought it worth sharing.  He has wise words for all of us.

  1. I love the way he moves so effortlessly between languages. But I still think the homily Archbishop Gregory delivered at our last ordination in February (a copy of which I sent your way, Deacon Greg) was a more powerful statement on the diaconate.

  2. Archbishop Gomez offered an excellent reflection on the diaconate in this homily. He will once again this coming Saturday ordain 48 men to the permanent diaconate for the archdiocese of Los Angeles. These deacons will serve in the Santa Barbara pastoral region of our diocese. May they too recongnize that they are called to be missionaries of God’s love!
