Priest dies two days after ordination —UPDATED

Priest dies two days after ordination —UPDATED May 10, 2013

A followup to the story I posted the other day on Fr. Scott Caroll. This email arrived today from Toledo:

Father Scott Carroll, who was ordained last Wednesday, died early this morning, Friday, May 10, 2013.

Arrangements are pending and will be forwarded to you as soon as they are known.

Please pray for the repose of Father Carroll’s soul and the consolation of his family.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him…

In his profile on the diocesan website, Scott wrote:

I consider the vocation of priesthood to be both the most demanding and rewarding thing that God could ever call me to do. It is my duty to find out if this is what is meant for me, to represent Jesus by teaching, learning and just being there for people.

UPDATE: A seminarian friend of Fr. Scott’s, Mike Keucher, describes him as “one of the most humble, gentle folks here…” and notes “Fr. Scott passed away about 40 hours after his ordination. Right before his death, he had just finished offering the Mass. When it was over, he fell asleep and died shortly thereafter.”  Also, Catholic News Agency has more biographical information.

Below, a picture from his ordination.
