Deacons, take note

Deacons, take note

If you ever feel compelled to chant the Gospel, here is how it’s done.

402513702456This dropped into my Facebook feed this morning: a video of Boston’s Fr. Robert Reed (ace author, head of Catholic TV, and a longtime FOTB) when he was Deacon Robert Reed, chanting the Gospel for Pentecost at St. Peter’s in 1985.

As a liturgical high point, it doesn’t get any better than this. (And I’m digging the Mike Brady haircut in the video, too.)

And I imagine for Fr. Reed, all the swirling memories of this singular event—St. Peter’s, Pentecost, an audience of millions, a blessing from a future saint—pretty much make this a singular moment that would be the envy of any deacon’s bucket list.

Enjoy.
