I’m clattering along the tracks on the way back to New York City, after a great 24 hours in the Diocese of Springfield (MA), where I spoke Wednesday night at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Parish in Westfield. I was part of their Lenten series on “Mercy Among Us,” and delivered a talk on CNEWA and its support for persecuted Christians in the Middle East.

Ace reporter Peggy Weber covered the event for the diocese—you can read more about it here—and it was a kick to meet her, since she happens to be the mom of Kerry Weber, of America Magazine.

While the parish is over 100 years old, the present church is new—only about six years old.

It features some beautiful stained glass windows, depicting scenes from the life of Mary.

The church also has a small Blessed Sacrament chapel, where the Eucharist is reserved and where they can celebrate smaller liturgies and hold Adoration.

Thursday, I got to meet some of the communications staff for the Diocese of Springfield.

I got to see the lovely broadcast chapel, where they televise Sunday Mass—note the cameras and lights.

I also got a brief tour of the cathedral, St. Michael’s.

It’s blessed with an impressive pipe organ.

And some beautiful stained glass windows, too.

After visiting the cathedral, I got to see some of the wonders of downtown Springfield, including the Basketball Hall of Fame.

Finally, it was time to hit the trail (or the train). I’m grateful to Fr. Dan Pacholec, who was a wonderful host, and the great folks at his parish, who made me feel so welcome and took such good care of me. I hope to come back soon!
