Good leadership calls people higher and, as Abraham Lincoln said, appeals to the better angels of our nature.
Bad leadership can send a legion of followers over a cliff.
It’s not easy to lead. Witness the shelves full of leadership books in the business section of any bookstore. We strive to learn those skills.
But leaders lead largely by example, as any parent knows. The leader sets the tone for the group.
I have never seen a presidential candidate so strongly shift the mood of the nation. Leading by example, Trump has given Americans permission to throw out political correctness and express their full-throated anger.
You can decide whether or not unleashing fury at the government is a good thing or is being handled well right now. My point is that this shift in American consciousness has been led by just one man with a microphone.
Leadership matters.
