My Date with Life

I met life while running on the treadmill

she was smiling.
“You should meet me on the road, my dear
running in one place will not bring you closer”

I know, I said.
I am meeting you on my own terms
For, if I meet you on the way,
I may overwhelm you, sweetheart!

Taken aback, she looked hard
thought for a long pause,
then cleared her throat and said softly
“I will wait for you, my dear”.

I have a date with life today
and I promise to overwhelm her!
