Rude Salespeople in China are Illegal: Management by Decree!

Notwithstanding the hype about China, I have always believed that the Chinese economy is a big bubble and an inconsistent one which is created by the Government and has, relatively speaking, very little private participation or initiative!

The Coming China Wars” explains the contradictions of China really well!

Now, China is coming out with an “Etiquette Law” which will make it illegal for the Sales Clerks in the shops all over the country to be rude to the customers! This is exactly what I was talking about! The big factories are built not because of any hard ROI/Cost-Benefits based business decision but because the Government deems so.. similarly now the Sales Clerks will not be courteous because it makes good business sense but because the Government deems so! Any guesses if these sort of actions are long term or short term? So, is the success – that such actions from large sprawling factories to courteous salesmen and women mistakenly seem to show.. long term or real?

Chinese business are run by a management principle that I call “Management by Decree”!

Starting next month, Beijing shopkeepers who vent their anger, act impatiently, glance at customers disdainfully or act absent-mindedly are in violation of the law. Also forbidden under the draft regulations are sarcastic or ironic comments, vague explanations, and grabbing customers to coerce them into buying something, according to a report released on a state media website last month.
