Do not worry
if all the candles
in the world
flicker and die.
We have the
SPARK
that starts the
FIRE.
~ Jalal ad-din Rumi
-Translated by Coleman Barks.
Yesterday in the United States,
we celebrated Independence Day.
The night sky was lit with fireworks
all across the country.
A palette of bright colors in awe-inspiring patterns
exploded with loud bursts
amidst the ooooh’s and aaaahh’s of the crowds.
We watch in amazement,
struck by the majesty and beauty.
Today their lights have all died out.
They are temporary.
They come and go quickly,
And they pale in comparison to the
light within your heart.
To witness this inner light,
even to catch a quick glimpse
of the eternal flame
will leave you forever changed,
filled with a knowing of a love so great
and a passion to seek its essence,
to drink its golden nectar,
to bathe in its sweetness,
and to serve all who bear and reflect
even the most subtle reflection
of this divine majesty.
In love and service,
a yearning to draw nearer to
the Essence of the One.
