At the library the other day I randomly picked up Tavis Smiley’s recent book, What I Know For Sure: My story of growing up in America. I started it at 9pm last night & finished it today by noon. Couldn’t put it down.
In a nutshell, it’s good. It’s not the writing says ta-da, but his story is crazy good. He is a passionate, driven, hard-working communicator with a deep sense of community and civic responsibility. I respect him tremendously & appreciate the work he does to bring positive change in urban communities.
The book gives a number of leadership principles, plus the basic truth: if you don’t work hard, you are probably not going to succeed and get the dream you want. Be the best! Be driven & inspire yourself constantly. I took 10 minutes today to write out the best tips & advice he gives. A worthwhile read for sure.
It was really an inspiring book. A+
