paying to be raped

Gosh, some things are so sad.  Today, Dave & I heard the most unfortunate story of the woman who is auctioning off her virginity.  The bid is up to $3.5 million.  Yep, million.  Some sick, horndog is willing to shell out millions of dollars for night of sex with a virgin.  Since the act will be done in Las Vegas, the whole shebang is actually legal.

She says she just wanted to “find a way to pay for school.”  How sad is that?  Ever heard of a federal loan from the government?

I’m trying not to be too quick to judge her because I know that there are women in the world who must prostitute themselves to survive or to feed their starving and malnourished children.  But this woman is a 21 year old American woman who is not living below the poverty level and needs to pay tuition.  That seems a lot different, wouldn’t you say?

I found myself hoping she is lying about being a virgin?  Here’s why…

Can you imagine how awful it would be for her to be a virgin and to lay down with a perfect stranger and have sex with a man who doesn’t give a flip about her -who has paid more than $3 million dollars- for this one night of the most selfish sex he’s ever had?  I would venture to say, that if she is a virgin the physical pain is going to be unbearable and the emotional scar will be far worse.

Essentially this woman is paying to be raped.  Essentially the ‘winning’ man is paying for the privilege of raping a stupid woman.

I wish I could have just one conversation with her!  Is there anything I could say to make her believe that her worth, mind, body and soul is priceless?  Would be helpful to point out how she not only disrespects herself but all women?  Is it a good argument to say that she is encouraging men to pay for sexual services by women, girls, kids and babies?  It may seem like a stretch, but this little shindig definitely isn’t helping our case.

I choose to feel nothing else for her, but pity.  A rich fool, is all she’ll be.
