Ahhh, life

Ahhh, life June 21, 2009

Does life ever go as planned?  I knew I spoke too soon.  No sooner than I wrote my last blog about my “new & improved site,” did the blog transfer upload crash.  Four hours later I put my Butterball to bed, went to go work on it again when a giant thunderstorm hit leaving us without the internet for 2.5 days.  Which by the way, was harder than I expected!  I have an old dusty Palm Treo phone so jumping on the internet from it is a pain in the bootay.  Anyway, regarding my blog…I’ll let you know after things are taken care of & I have a ways to go, still.

In the meantime, I had two fun date nights with Dave & our friends this weekend.  On Thu. night we played Settlers of Catan with Cities & Knights with Ryan & Joy while eating a bottomless bag of Lays chips with dip & a glorious strawberry covered cheesecake. (not made by me).  Dave ended up winning, which is fairly rare & as he said that night is “something I haven’t done since my 20’s!”  Last time he won that game was when he was 29.  He’s 34. 😉  He then said he’s hoping to win again when he’s 40.  “One win per decade!”

On Friday night we played Catan again with our friends, Jim & Jamie & guess who won? Mwa!  I was so excited.  To be honest with you, it’s game that I love, but rarely ever win.  If youv’e ever played you know these two things: it’s addicting & it’s meant for those with a naturally strategic mind, ability to focus & carry out your strategy.  In the end it took all my might & focus to pull of that win.  I am the ruler of Catan -for now. 🙂  All in all, a winning weekend for the Biskies!

Ransom took some chances & jumped on the raft in their pool with Jim & Jamie’s 3.5 yr. old, Vivian.  I was so shocked ~ he’s been our little over-cautious, fraidy-cat since he was one day old.  Dave has taught him this mantra, “scary but fun, scary but fun.”  Today the little mantra helped him to face his fear of going up to the tallest ladder at the playground & going down the biggest of the twisty slides.  He even crossed the rolling bridge by himself, which he never does.  Afterwards he came over to me and said, “Mama, I am super proud of me for being brave!”  He’s such a doll.

We treated Daddy to Pizza Hut (his fave) & some cute new -consigned- outfits for Fathers Day today.  I even told him we could hike (also his fave activity) but about 5 minutes in he realized I was miserable & offered for us to just go to the playground.  What a great guy I have.  I feel really thankful today to realize my hubby is a good Father who really invests in Ransom in so many ways.  He works really hard to emotionally pursue him, connect to Ransom on all sorts of levels and to be faithful in teaching him everything from the letters in his name to how to pray.  I love watching Dave & Ran together & I’m really excited that God is giving Dave another son to develop.  (See, I’m comin’ around!)

Hope all you Fathers (& wives to good Fathers) out there are able to enjoy your day.  I was wondering today what it would be like to celebrate a Fathers Day with my own Dad.  I can’t think of one time I actually celebrated with him or even said, “Happy Fathers Day,” to my Dad.  In fact, I usually never even think of him on Fathers Day.  He’s been gone for awhile & he spent over half my life in prison.

Last night though, Ransom asked me where his Grandpa Green was.  We recently brought up Grandpa Green because Dave was reading him a book about great African-American men & told Ran that his Grandpa Green was African-American.  And then he brought it up, so close to Fathers day  ~ weird, huh?  Anyway, I’m not sad about it, it just made me realize that Fathers Day for me has mostly been about celebrating other good Daddies & not mourning the loss of my own.  I think that’s a good thing.

Anyway, lots to do this week.  Dave & I are taking our yearly trip to Madison, WI pretty soon for some InterVarsity training stuff.  See yall soon.
