Pregnancy: Love? Hate? Neutral?

Pregnancy: Love? Hate? Neutral? August 7, 2009

So, ladies, how do you feel about being pregnant?  I’m not talking about what you get at the end, I’m talking only about the state of being pregnant.  Like for example, if there was no prize at the end of this journey would you still want to take part?

I ask this for a few reasons, besides mostly just wondering & enjoying interacting with my blogging gal pals…

1.  I have friends who say they “love” to be pregnant.  (good grief)

2. I know women who experienced no morning sickness what-so-ever. (lucky ducks)

3.  I know women who have had awful pregnancies… but have like 4 or 5 kids.  (crazies)

4.  I have a friend who nearly died in childbirth but will still like to get pregnant again.  (she loves her babies)

& then there’s me.  I just sort of loathe all of this experience.   With both pregnancies, I found morning sickness, exhaustion & back pain to be especially annoying.  That’s not to mention labor!  Also, I hate feeling not-myself & I hate being weak.  I hate feeling vulnerable & I hate how big my boobs get.  I just don’t like this, yall.  If I can continue my rant, I also hate when the baby moves -almost constantly now- it’s really painful.  (It wasn’t with Ransom, but I guess with #2 & on things go downhill).

All that said, I was reflecting today on how beautiful the pregnant body is.  I’m up to 181 pounds & when I’m naked I think, “wow, that’s nice lookin’.”  With clothes on… well, that’s a different story.  Here’s an iconic pic us gen-x’ers remember all too well…  Makes me wish I could do my own nude preggo photo shoot.  (For private consumption of course!  Were all not Demi, baby!)

I like the idea of complaining about the state of being pregnant, but keeping it separate from the bundles of joy that come at the end.  That way you will know that I LOVE my children, yet sort of hate how they have to get here.

For real, you have to believe me, I’m so genuinely happy to meet my new son & trust me when I say I’ll be overjoyed to hold & care for him.

So, what about you, do you love, hate or are you neutral about the whole experience?  If your not preggo & plan to be someday, are you looking forward to it?
