A Series of Fortunate Events… December 28, 2009

As I mentioned an eternity ago in blogging time in my last post, my hubby & I went off on a seemingly-once-in-a-lifetime kid-free date to celebrate my upcoming 33rd birthday (which is Decebmer 30th, for those of you who want to speak my love language 🙂  My restaurant of choice was closed so we ended up at Texas Corall where we feasted on BBQ ribs & lots more things that make you chunky good food.  We then headed over to hot-tub gardens, which was perfect because it was a cool 17 degrees outside making it actually comfortable to sit outside in a burning hot hot-tub.  Can I tell you how great it is to be able to have un-interrupted adult conversation?

Especially in front of a fire place in a room built with logs.  Felt like we were in Colorado or something!  Fyi, I didn’t get the purse… but I’m still holding out hope. 🙂

The next day we celebrated my husband Dave’s 35th b-day / Christmas with my in-laws, Fred & Sara.  Ransom is in love with his new Lightning McQueen tent/ shelter / flashlight.

But then again so is our cat, Putty…

With a little help from his big brother pushing him in, even little Rhys got in on the action…

In other fortunate news…

This was the first Christmas of our 9.5 yr. marriage that we spent alone together at our own house.  With the four of us now, it felt like were a real family.  Is that weird?  Can you see the love?

Rhys got a Baby Bumbo for Christmas but still needs a few weeks to enjoy it…

"wow, look at that... new pacifiers, thanks, Ma!"

All in all it was a great morning!  Dave & I wanted nothing more than to take a nap, watch a movie & go into super chill mode.  However, we took Dave to the airport for his early rehearsals for his work on the Urbana Theatre Arts Team. I’m so proud of my baby.

If you want to see what he’s been a part of at the huge 22,000 Urbana student conference click here. If you want you can even watch his 1st performance.

After spending the rest of Christmas Day packing my boys & I headed out to spend some time with various friends of mine in the Detroit area.

Even though I’ve plunged into a mourning of sorts over missing the Urbana Conference for the 1st time since  1996, I have really enjoyed the following fortunate things in the past few days…

  • relaxing in a warm inviting house
  • good cooking
  • great talks
  • my sis babysitting so I could enjoy a girls night out
  • man alive I’ve been enjoying my friend Jean’s cable (we live in a T.V. less / cable-less home).  I’ve watched so many movies in just 3 days.  My fave so far?  *What Happens in Vegas* with Ashton Kutcher & Cameron Diaz.  It looked so dumb but I ended up really liking it.  It’s no wonder I haven’t gotten a blog done, eh?
  • I had a great day with my mom today & my good friends Kenny & Patrice at Twelve Oaks Mall.
  • The overall feeling of being “on vacation.”  It just feels nice to be able to enjoy free time with my kiddos.  Ran & I have done hours and hours of Lego’s together –I love Lego’s! 🙂

I’m hoping to catch up with some more Detroit-area friends.  So if you wanna hang out, I’ll be in town for awhile so gimme a buzz! (or facebook me).
