Biskies Continue to be Baffled by Baby Names!

Baby naming has us baffled.  Downright baffled.  I’m convinced we will not come up with a suitable name that we both like for this child.  I say I should get to pick the 1st name as a gift for carrying him for 9 months & he should get to pick the middle name.  He’s not having it.

There’s “Rhys” which we both like, only he likes spelled “Reece” (I say too much like Reece’s Pieces) or “Reese” (I say too feminine because of Reese Witherspoon’s popularity).

He likes “Isaiah”, which I also love because of who he was in the Bible & what the name means.  However, it’s in the top 100 baby names of 2008 & just feels too overused to me right now.  I like biblical names a lot but just not the over-used ones… i.e. how about “Zechariah” & call him “Zachary,” etc.  He’s not down with “Z” names.

He brought up to me both “Simon” & “Simeon.”  When I chose “Simeon” he changed his mind & only would go with “Simon,” which I’m not crazy about at all.

I am the only one in the entire world -including all of my friends- who likes the name “Shalom” needless to say, Dave’s not excited about it either.

In that same vain, I could also go with “Sidney” but Dave feels like it’s too feminine.  Both names we were considering if it was a girl.  Hey, what about Sidney Poitier?

I sort of like “Shepherd” which Dave also only sort of likes but he’s afraid I’m trying to just jump on the celebrity bandwagon since Jerry Seinfeld recently named his son, “Shepherd.”  He’s open to using it as a middle name.

Dave recently brought up “Christian,” which I only sort of like, but would only want to spell it “Kristian,” a spelling which he hates.

We tossed around -albeit briefly- the full name “Christian Shepherd” until we realized it was the name of a T.V. character from LOST who is Jack’s dad.  On the show Dr. Shepherd is a drunken, mean, cheating surgeon whose body is missing & appears to people though dead… not exactly what you want to name your kid after.

And that’s just the 1st name!

Middle name options include:

“London” (a family name on my dad’s side)

“Joshua” (both love & respect the dude in the Bible)

“Andrew” (because if we come up with an “R” first name, his initials would be R.A.B. like Sirius’ brother in the Harry Potter books).  That would be sweet!

“Shepherd” – I’m still holding out hope on this one.
