In celebration of Mother’s Day & Mama’s everywhere I’m sharing my 1st moments with Rhys & images of newborns from around the world as a part of my work with the The Global Team of 200 and our partnership with Save The Children. ~ I went in for a regular checkup 3 days before Rhys’ due date.  “Something’s not quite right,” she said.  She called in 4 people & they all stuck their hands up my yahoo, pressed, prodded & photographed... Read more

If you had told me at this time last year that I’d be published in a book coming out this Fall, I’d have smacked you.  Hella hard.  Everything in my life was SUCK-WAD city.  When the beautiful Enuma asked if I’d like to write about my SUCK-WAD city for an upcoming anthology I jumped at the chance.  The decision to write my story in a book with binding & actual pages gave me an insane amount of hope. When you read... Read more

For almost 3 years, I’ve been using the Seeking God’s Face Devotional Prayer Bible as my primary quiet time entry point.  I have a 3.5 yr. old son.  It’s been a wonderful tool as I’ve weathered the grueling life stage that is raising small children.  Ain’t nobody got time to bust out markers & print off manuscripts whilst spending 30 minutes just on observations.  (Pre-children, this is what I used to do, people).  Wanna know what? I freaking loved that... Read more

People say the hardest person to lead is yourself.  While I find that to be abundantly true in my own life, I’ve realized I’m also the hardest person to have grace on. Lots of people say I am aptly named.  I believed I was named by God and gifted with grace.  I believe I have showered it down on others generously.  For myself?  Not so much. ~ Last year when I was searching for that “perfect” blogging tagline I wanted... Read more

Last month I decided to make my very own set of personal commandments.  15 to be exact.  Via Audible, I listened to Gretchen Rubin’s Happier at Home (which is by far and away my most influential book of 2013 so far).  As soon as I finished, I re-listened then borrowed the hard copy from the library. Immediately after that, I downloaded The Happiness Project, which also MAJORLY inspired me. More than that, I believe God has used these non-conventional books... Read more

“Humans have never lived purely functional lives, even when life was most difficult, when our survival was most precarious.  We are compelled to create.  Humans mysteriously create things with no practical function or purpose other than to be beautiful.” This is one of many nuggets of truth that stuck out to me after finishing up Matt Appling’s new book, Life after Art: What you Forgot about Life & Faith since you Left the Art Room.  I see that truth in my... Read more

My world shattered the first time I chose sex. I was fourteen, still a little person, barely 100 pounds. My world didn’t shatter because the God of heaven rained down tears of anger over my pre-marital sex, cut me out of our personal relationship or decided to never use me again. That’s what I thought God was supposed to do when a little girl throws off her special invisible virginity cloak. You can read the rest of this post over at... Read more

Or “in which I am a beloved failure,” OR “this is my defining moment, Y’all,” OR “I ate cliché’s for breakfast because the BEST IS YET TO COME!” On Monday I transitioned from the foundation I was working for.  I’m not contractually able to say more than that, which in some ways, is a relief and when asked questions can feel good about thinking “mind yo beez wax, Playa!”  (Translation: mind your business, please). If you’re newish to GwG, this... Read more

After it’s all said and done, I’ll be with Jesus. After I have all these shiny daubles and red-bottomed shoes, I’ll be with Jesus. After I pour out my life as a drink offering, I’ll be with Jesus… You can read the rest of my Five Minute Friday post over on my patheos blog. ~ I had a great Easter weekend with my family followed by a week long work trip, but in the margins I’ve been working on a... Read more
