Another round of What I Wore Wednesday + friends. Here’s a ‘little miss preppy’ look that is really not “me” at all… …but I decided to rock it anyway. Navy blue pants – Old Navy, Yellow/white striped shirt – Target, camel belt – thrifted, sandals, -$3 Kohl’s clearance, scarf – a gift from my MOST fashionable peep, Sharry. =) (I pinned the two ends of the scarf together to make it appear like it’s an eternity scarf, but it’s not.  A... Read more

A few weeks after my Dad died, my brother called and said ‘I think there’s something you should have.’  It was a small wooden jewelry box with a scroll inside.  The scroll was wrapped in a shiny red rope.  Written on the scroll was a prayer to God about my Mother & I.  That box wouldn’t hold value to anyone but me.  I probably couldn’t sell it on Craigslist for .55 cents. If something doesn’t hold significance for a number... Read more

It took me almost a year to build up the courage to finally share my battle with depression.  For many years I lived in POINTLESS shame about it.  Eventually, it got worse.  I started writing poems about it.  I have been exhausted by it.  I have wondered if it will ever go away. Last year, I partnered with two organizations: Help for Depression and To Write Love on Her Arms (TWLOHA) to help raise $15,000 for depression awareness. It has... Read more

I watched The Truman Show tonight while I was pretending to get some work done. A line stuck out to me: “If Truman wanted to get out, he would.  But he won’t because we all accept the reality we have been given.” And it’s true, we do until we know we don’t have to. Everyone in Truman’s world was lying to him through their nasty teeth.  It’s a profoundly sad movie, y’all. I was chatting it up the other day... Read more

My Instagram(ed) life… I’m going through this study with 30 other ladies from my Church this summer. So far SO GOOD.  If you want to pick up your own copy and do it with me let me know!  I’d happily incorporate some content here. We had two really fun days of hanging out in the sun before it got cold…again.  I could kill Michigan. We headed out to a Memorial Day parade last week.  This may seem odd –probably because... Read more

I am losing something. It’s dying. It’s not someone but it is something very important me.  It’s something that I love very deeply and it’s going away. I’ve cried. In the midst of this loss, something else –with great value to me– has been fighting for it’s life too. I’ve been crying about that too. In fact, there is very little I don’t cry about it: YouTube video’s, commercials, small dead animals on the side of the road. I’m an... Read more

“The greatest memorial to our fallen troops cannot be found in the words we say or the places we gather. The more lasting tribute is all around us — a country where citizens have the right to worship as they want, to march for what they believe, and to say what they think. These freedoms came at great costs — and they will survive only as long as there are those willing to step forward to defend them against determined... Read more
