Avatar. Avatar. Avatar. How I long to love and hate you. Love first: I loved Pandora, the distant world of the Na’vi.  It was beautiful and visually stunning in every way.  I agree with what everyone and their Mama is saying about the gorgeous effects and the realness of the Na’vi. As an escape, as a fun thing to do alongside my hubby, it was great fun.  I didn’t mind the plot, no it wasn’t *The Usual Suspects* but it... Read more

A few weeks ago, a friend committed suicide. This was the first friend I’ve ever lost this way.  I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it. He wasn’t a “great” friend of mine, or even a “good” friend of mine.  But we were friends who went to Seminary together.  He’d just graduated with his Masters of Divinity last May. Our passing-in-between-classes conversations always revolved around fashion.  He had the coolest laptop bag. Ever.  My friend wore thick black horn-rimmed... Read more

Last week my friend York asked, “what’s wrong with your hair?”  This came only two days after my friend Jean asked, “so little buddy, what’s up with your hair nowadays?”  I get the point.  If youv’e seen me lately, you know it’s been a hot mess.  Nappy, too big, a bad haircut (by me), roots are natural while the ends are permed. Seriously, it’s been downright awful.  And the only reason I haven’t done anything about it is time.  How... Read more

Because my husband also came home with a really cool blue Urbana bag, I thought I’d re-post “targetshoppers” recent blog about a really cool bag story… “My husband came home from Urbana with this really cool new bag. When I commented on it, he said, “you should hear the story behind it.” And so, I heard the story, read the story, and am now passing on the story. The story is incredible and the bags are just so cool. Take some... Read more

Life is about to be a different bit and I’m feeling up to the challenge.  As I mentioned a little while ago in my blog about depression that sometimes when I’m facing major transitions I get so overwhelmed I can barely get started.  Thank God, right now is not one of those times. In order to live the type of life I want to live, I forced myself through fear to undergo several major transitions in the past few years.  From beginning my... Read more

I had to give my gym the old heave-ho.  Not because of money.  At a little under $30 a month, they are affordable.  For that price I have learned to secretly loathe going there accept the fact that they have no pool or jacuzzi. The real reason I’m giving them the boot, with a little bit of anger attached is this: horrible awful hours for who else but women.  The exact crowd they market to, they treat like dirt with... Read more

Ryan Seacrest is on T.V.  Jennifer Lopez is about to perform.  There are 750,000 people on the streets at Times Square.  And I am… …watching it.  Happily.  As nice as it would be to be standing in 35 degree weather in the rain, watching Fergie shake her groove thang, I’m glad to be blogging tonight.  It’s nice to have time to think, ya know? The beginning of a new year -a new decade even- got me thinking about, what else,... Read more

The hubster will be gone for a whopping 10 days as he’s been acting on the Urbana Drama team.  (You can watch him here.) I thought it was going to be all-sadness-all-the-time while he was gone.  Not so… I had such a relaxing time staying with my friend J while her her hubby is visiting family in Lebanon for a month.  And now I’m staying with other friend J while her hubby is away at Urbana as well.  “Urbana widows,” ... Read more

As I mentioned an eternity ago in blogging time in my last post, my hubby & I went off on a seemingly-once-in-a-lifetime kid-free date to celebrate my upcoming 33rd birthday (which is Decebmer 30th, for those of you who want to speak my love language 🙂  My restaurant of choice was closed so we ended up at Texas Corall where we feasted on BBQ ribs & lots more things that make you chunky good food.  We then headed over to... Read more

For a little holiday laughter and cheer… Just downright funny…especially for “24” fans… In other news… Yesterday, my little Reeserton got his 2-month-old immunizations.  It was either the Tylenol or the stress of the occasion, but he gave me one of the best night of sleep that either of us have had in awhile. Which was great because I feel a schooch better from this snotty, cough-y cold I’ve been fighting.  Enough to host our good friends Dave & Jessica... Read more
