Christmas Miracle #1: We got a tree up!  “What type of miracle is that?!” you say.  I’ll tell ya.  Dave & I have been married for 9 Christmases now & this only our 3rd time putting a tree up.  There is something about the busyness of December & the details of the task that make it, well, just plain old overwhelming for us. The 2nd time it went up it didn’t come down until the next August. It took many... Read more

Yesterday, I posted instructions on how to make your own holiday season photo card.  Today I’m not feeling too great so instead of trying to be productive and studious with my breastfeeding hours I decided to tool around on the computer in mindless euphoria. I ended up making another card of my boys, Ransom & Rhys.  Another card I won’t print or send out because as I’ve mentioned before, I don’t do Christmas cards. However, after making these two Christmas... Read more

Today, I went to pick up Rhys’ Christmas gift – a blue Baby Bumbo seat- from some dude via a purchase I made through the ever popular website, Craigslist.com.  When I got there he asked me if I was involved in InterVarsity.  When I responded yes, he gave me some of my money back because he had friends “whose lives where changed through InterVarsity,” at Central Michigan University! (As an aside, there is nothing that warms an InterVarsity staff workers... Read more

Last week I posted the outtakes for our December 2009 prayer card.  Here are the ones we had to choose from.  Again, I don’t love any of them, but it was a last minute photo shoot we put together in a couple of hours so I guess I can’t complain. I didn’t like this one because my hair is frizzy (well, it’s frizzy in all the pictures but this one looks like I just rolled outta bed).  We also thought Ran’s... Read more

As I was running errands this morning several cars & myself passed an old handicapped man who was clearly stuck in the middle of a large mini-mall parking lot riding a motorized scooter trying to push it along with his cane. His left hand & left arm was shriveled. His left foot had a huge 7 inch block on the bottom of it.  His right foot was so big & swollen that he had only a sock over it. (It’s... Read more

~My mom called me today to ask for my help to get her “off of that facebook” where she is sure that something really bad will come of it.  Now, this is a long ways from the days she called the entirety of the internet, “the yahoo.”  It feels like at least 1/2 of my mother’s generation embraces the information age & the other half are convinced it’s all a big evil plot.  In 35 years what will my response... Read more

I apologize beforehand, but this post is painfully vague. Forgive me, will ya? 🙂 Sometimes it feels like I try so hard to set up my life in such a way that I won’t be disappointed, you know, the age old quest for a life of happiness, peace & contentment. When things are going well, it’s like I’ve somehow tricked myself into thinking that I’m actually in control of everything…which I’m not, of course.  Yet, I still live in delusional... Read more

Every year Dave & I make a prayer card that we send in our year-end newsletter to all of our supporting families and Churches in our work with InterVarsity.  For example, this was last years… My Mother’N’Law, Sara took this pic in front of Fenton Lake in the backyard of Dave’s late Grandma H. We haven’t yet picked & made the pic for this year but I thought it’d be fun to show you the outtakes before you get to... Read more

Rhys just turned 6 weeks last Monday which means one thing… I’m back to work (as you can probably surmise from my lack of blogging activity)!  The great part about being back to work -for now- is that it’s all administrative things I can do from home while sitting in my pajama’s and/or nursing Rhys. The hard part about this whole set up is that I’m constantly tempted to a) watch shows on hulu b) blog or c) clean the... Read more
