How do you best learn? I realized in the past few years that I’ve totally embraced my inner Hermione Granger, the total bookworm from the Harry Potter series. When we 1st started trying to get pregnant with my son, Ransom I ran to the library & got every book available on trying to conceive. Turns out you have sex just before or while your ovulating. Once I conceived, I ran to the library & got every available book on pregnancy.... Read more

Last night I spoke at the InterVarsity Chapter at my Alma mater, Wayne State University. There was something redonkulously surreal about pulling into my exact old parking spot from my undergrad over 10 years ago, walking the same path into the student center and seeing all of these familiar (yet unfamiliar) faces and buildings. The talk went great & I felt fully in love with the students there. I had about 6 great convos with students afterwards, which is one... Read more

Last night I woke up moaning and breathing heavily from a very intense charlie horse in my right calf muscle. It startled Dave & he woke up pretty confused and asked what was wrong. “I’ve got a really bad charlie horse in my leg,” I responded. He says, “so your not in labor?” “No.” And with all the sensitivity of a blunt axe he says,”well, then can I go back to sleep?” Meanwhile I’m still writhing in pain. Ahhh, my... Read more

Way back in the pre-historic days before every college student had a cell-phone attached to their ear, a laptop on their hip & a 1 ounce music listening device hidden on their person, I was in college.  And when I think back on those years, only one word comes to mind: pain.  It was a time of grief.  Yes, it is juxtaposed with the peace God offered me when I stepped into a relationship with Him but it also a... Read more

Most of us know, were all super annoyed when others offer their unsolicited opinion on everything from parenting to lawn care.  But what to do when you ask? It seems the more conversations Dave & I have with people about our baby name options the more I find myself getting defensive, offended & just plain old hurt.  I used to be annoyed to death when parents kept their baby name choice a secret until the little tyke was born but... Read more

Today’s blog is taken from my thoughts of chapter 3, On Being Humble from Leadership Essentials: Shaping Vision, Multiplying Influence & Defining Character as a part of the official gabbingwithgrace.com Book Club.  Sorry, I’m behind.  In all humility, I’m a loser. Okay, let me first say, this workbook is SO GOOD.  And even if you didn’t ever read my posts on the book or even consider buying it or joining my book club –please go through it yourself!  It’s not... Read more

Dave & I are still pretty torn about that small issue of naming our son who will be born in 6 weeks or less.  We have made some progress in determining that the name “Reese,” is probably the only one we both like except I want to spell it “Rhys,” & he wants to spell it “Reece.”  Such a seemingly small detail, yet it keeps us from being able to make a final decision which happens to be driving me... Read more

*If your looking for my latest “Leadership Essentials” book club post on chapter 3 I’m a day late & a dollar short so expect it tomorrow* It’s time to fess up: 1.  I only ever try to keep plants alive on our property because it makes me feel like some sort of suzie home-maker that I’m not. 2.  I usually kill said plants in record time. 3.  When I’m feeling hopeless about things I often want to blow stuff up.  People.... Read more

As I’ve mentioned in past blogs, my husband Dave & I have felt like were entering into a rougher phase of marriage where we are intentionally facing some of our issues.  To use a battle analogy, it felt like we spent weeks & weeks talking about the battle we were heading into.  Weeks & weeks of discussing what our action plan was, getting a strategy together and determining desired outcomes.  It felt like weeks of getting dressed up in our... Read more

Now this is just sad: Sending Ransom out to play on Aug. 29th in a thick coat & a winter hat at 6pm in the evening… My cat Putty loves sleepin’ on the belly…  At 33 weeks now & wanting nothing more than to kick my feet up. My boy loves to go out & “mow” with Daddy.  He’ll do this for 2 hours at a time while Dave mows. This is why Ransoms mattress is still on the floor... Read more
