Weeding out Reed in Georgia

Weeding out Reed in Georgia August 28, 2006

One day in the not too distant past, the kingmaker decided that he

would become a king by being elected Georgia’s next Lieutenant Governor
but something strange happened on Reid’s way to King.

One could argue that the Republican triumvirate of political
partisanship in America can be defined by the three “R’s”: Rove,
Rumsfeld and Reed. Ralph Reed has long been the face and force behind
the Christian Coalition in America. His All-American boyish looks and
charm made him a household name among his supporters and foes. Reed
helped to usher in the Republican tidal wave that swept the party of
Lincoln into power in Congress in 1994 and Reed became known as a
kingmaker. One day in the not too distant past, the kingmaker decided
that he would become a king by being elected Georgia’s next Lieutenant
Governor but something strange happened on Reid’s way to King. A bloody
and brutal campaign with Georgia State Senator Casey Cagle which
disregarded Ronald Reagan’s 11th commandment among Republicans left
Reid’s head bloody and bowed.

Senator Cagle was able to hang the unethical mantle of shady
dealings with convicted Washington lobbyist Jack Abramoff around Reed’s
neck via vicious and unrelenting television ads and direct mail. Reed
could not overcome his face on a deck of casino cards in one of the
most popular television ads of the primary season. In the end the man
who had helped to get Republicans elected all the way up to the White
House including its current occupant, could not become King in Georgia.
Remember that statue of Saddam Hussein being pulled down in Baghdad?
Cagle put a robe around Reed’s neck and pulled him down on Tuesday,
July 18, 2006 to which Reed confessed “I’m not focused on being a
candidate in the future, but I’m glad I ran.” Reed has been weeded out
in Georgia!
