Every part of my life, whether being a mother or public servant for the people of Kansas, is formed and sustained by my faith. I believe it’s important for public servants to remain true to themselves while making choices which reflect the diverse groups of citizens they’re elected to serve.
Growing up, my parents instilled in me the importance of public service. Through their strong faith and commitment to each other, our family and our community, I learned what a meaningful impact our caring involvement can have on those around us.

The lessons from my family and my upbringing guide me today as I work to improve the lives of the people
of Kansas.
Government must put the people of Kansas first by promoting values and policies that advance thecommon good and expand opportunities for every resident of our state. Our core values call on us to makeour state the best in the nation in which to live work and raise a family, not just for ourselves, but for all
Kansans.
I believe in:
• Supporting Healthy Families: Families are the foundation of our community. Government can not solve all our problems, but it also shouldn’t get in the way. I’ve worked hard to reduce thepressures on
Kansas families by increasing access to affordable health care, creating safe neighborhoods
and supporting schools for all our children.
• Addressing the Moral Crisis of Poverty: Human suffering requires that each of us,
especially leaders in positions of authority, act to change structures that threaten human life and dignity. Efforts to reduce the suffering of poor families and children must enhance their lives and protect their dignity. I have pursued public policy that promotes greater responsibility while also offering steps for families to leave poverty.
• Stewardship of our Shared Resources: Our public resources must be protected and
maintained for future generations. As Governor, it’s my duty to make sure that our state properly manages these precious resources. Over my administration, I’ve worked hard to reduce wasteful governmentspending and promoted better conservation of our land and water.
• Respecting Human Life: We must do all we can to ensure life with dignity for every single
person, no matter how young or old they may be. This includes working together, across our differences, to reduce the need and numbers of abortions in Kansas by helping women and families get the support they need when facing an unexpected pregnancy.
