Another Reason to Vote Democratic

Another Reason to Vote Democratic 2013-05-09T06:23:09-06:00

I can think of about 468 reasons to vote for Democratic
congressional candidates in November (all 435 House seats are at stake in
addition to 33 Senate seats). But if you need yet another reason to vote Democratic
this fall, K. A. Paul, an evangelist from Houston,
Texas, provides one: the return
of Jesus.

I can think of about 468 reasons to vote for Democratic
congressional candidates in November (all 435 House seats are at stake in
addition to 33 Senate seats). The arguments, in fact, are overwhelming, even
apart from the Republican hypocrisy over the Foley scandal: the war in Iraq, which
doesn’t meet even the barest of just-war criteria; the use of torture, which
has now been approved by the Republican-controlled Congress; the minimum wage,
adjusted for inflation, is the lowest it’s been since 1955; the economy is
listless. And on and on.

But if you need yet another reason to vote Democratic this
fall, K. A. Paul, an evangelist from Houston,
Texas, provides one: the return
of Jesus. According to an article in the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Paul told a
church gathering in Cleveland Heights that U.S. foreign
policy, formulated by Republicans, is delaying the return of Jesus. Republican
policies, Paul argues, have blocked Christian missionaries from being deployed
to Iran, Iraq and Syria. For that reason, Jesus has apparently
decided to bide his time.

Paul’s logic may be a bit loopy, but it’s hard to quarrel
with his conclusion. In the Ohio gathering, Paul
went on to describe the war in Iraq
an “unnecessary genocide.” No argument there.

So vote Democratic this November. The reasons, both temporal
and otherworldly, are overwhelming.
