Left Behind’s Less Violent Video Game

Left Behind’s Less Violent Video Game 2013-05-09T06:10:20-06:00

Now you too can fight your own physical and spiritual warfare on your very own game console.

The Left Behind series books have been a major success in the United States.  Their success inspired films based upon the books starting in 2000 staring former "Growing Pains" kid star Kirk Cameron.  Now the series inspires a video game entitled Left Behind: Eternal Forces:

Wage a war of apocalyptic proportions in LEFT BEHIND: Eternal Forces – a real-time strategy game based upon the best-selling LEFT BEHIND book series created by Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins.  Join the ultimate fight of Good against Evil, commanding Tribulation Forces or the Global Community Peacekeepers, and uncover the truth about the worldwide disappearances!

    · Lead the Tribulation Force from the book series , including Rayford, Chloe, Buck and Bruce against Nicolae Carpathia – the AntiChrist.

    · Conduct physical & spiritual warfare : using the power of prayer to strengthen your troops in combat and wield modern military weaponry throughout the game world.

    · Recover ancient scriptures and witness spectacular Angelic and Demonic activity as a direct consequence of your choices.

    · Command your forces through intense battles across a breathtaking, authentic depiction of New York City .

    · Control more than 30 units types – from Prayer Warrior and Hellraiser to Spies, Special Forces and Battle Tanks!

    · Enjoy a robust single player experience across dozens of New York City maps in Story Mode – fighting in China Town , SoHo , Uptown and more!

    · Play multiplayer games as Tribulation Force or the AntiChrist's Global Community Peacekeepers with up to eight players via LAN or over the internet!

Sweet!  Now I can play a violent video game that teaches me that prayer can help my troops in battle.  I can save souls and win!  I can shoot people and still be righteous… how awesome!!

This second part of the game:

Conduct physical & spiritual warfare : using the power of prayer to strengthen your troops in combat and wield modern military weaponry throughout the game world.

That is the one that really gets to me.  The gamemakers are trying for an E rating which means that a child of any age can buy and play this game.  They can then be taught by playing the game that prayer can help you in battle.  Contrary to everything Jesus teaches in the Gospels, "love your enemies" not conduct "physical & spiritual warfare".

The story just keeps getting better and better though.  The company that makes this game, Left Behind Games, is a publicly traded company.  The real good news is that the stock climbed nearly 10% today and it will probably only continue to rise as the controversy behind the game gains more publicity.

Ultimately though it falls upon the parents to not have their children play violent video games when they are not of age to do so.  But shouldn't companies be some what responsible as well?
