Christian Zionism – Assault on the Children of Abraham

Christian Zionism – Assault on the Children of Abraham 2013-05-09T06:09:18-06:00

To curse Palestinian Christians by rendering them faceless and through policies intended to push them out of their homes and across the Jordan River is to curse Abraham.

A crisis of major proportions confronts the American people.  Our government is either oblivious or complicit to that crisis.  Either way, America has chosen sides in the conflict in the Middle East.  Millions of professing Christians have engaged in practices that have contributed to the marginalizing and oppression of fellow believers on the West Bank of the Palestine Territory and in East Jerusalem.

Christians United for Israel, an organization under the leadership of Texas evangelist John Hagee, claims a captive audience of 50M evangelical Christians whose faith rises or falls on the mandate of God's promise to Abraham, Gen. 12:3, I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse, and all the peoples on earth will be blessed through you.  This is a movement now referred to as Christian Zionism.

Evangelical Christians interpret Gen. 12:3 as pivotal to their standing with God.  It is a form of idolatry to the nation-state of Israel – the land overshadowing the promise, and the promise restricted to the land.  Abraham, Jew and the nation-state of Israel become interchangeable terms.  Millions of dollars are poured into encouraging illegal Jewish settlements on the West Bank and East Jerusalem and lobbying the Congress of the United States and the administration to uncritically support all actions, legal or illegal, of the nation-state of Israel.

The latest public gambit of Christian Zionism is the call for a unilateral, preemptive strike against Iran.

Historically, Abraham was the biological father of Ishmael, considered to be the father of the Arab race.  Abraham was the grandfather of Esau, father of the Edomites, the original Palestinians.  To curse or oppress the Palestinians, therefore, is to curse both Ishmael and Esau and, therefore, to curse Abraham.

Theologically, Christians are grafted into the Jewish race and are, therefore, descendents of Abraham.  To curse Palestinian Christians by rendering them faceless and through policies intended to push them out of their homes and across the Jordan River is to curse Abraham.

On October 12 & 13, 2007, Dr. L. Michael Spath, Assistant Professor of Religious Studies at Purdue University and widely traveled in the Holy Land, and Stan Moody, founder of the Christian Policy Institute, held a conference in Manchester, Maine.  The conference was to begin building a coalition of prophetic voices to protest the anti-Semitic actions of Evangelicals who love the nation-state of Israel, patronize the Jewish people and are contributing to the oppression and suppression of Palestinians, the children of Abraham.

The enthusiasm of conference attendees was riveting.  Topics such as Palestinian Schools, Mobilizing our Youth for Peace, Hebron – a City Under Siege, Palestinian Gandhis and Jewish Perspectives on the Theology of the Land were thoroughly covered.

"What can we do to begin changing this policy?" was repeated again and again.

The answer to that question is multi-tasked.  Each task, interestingly, is straightforward and really quite simple.

1.        Build a coalition of friends and acquaintances who have an interest in this pivotal disaster in American foreign policy that has led us into Iraq and threatens our national sovereignty, setting the stage for a contrived Battle of Armageddon.

2.        Arrange for Drs. Spath and Moody to speak to groups throughout the nation, spreading the word of how American Christians are violating the precepts of Jesus' Sermon on the Mount and His command to care for the least of His brothers and sisters (Matt. 25).

3.        Write letters to the editor of your local newspapers, protesting Christian treatment of Palestinians, the children of Abraham.

4.        Organize groups of people, regardless of religious affiliation, who will meet, study and discuss this disastrous and spiritually condemning policy.

Our nation is officially at war against something called "terrorism," a moving target of an invisible enemy declaring itself when least expected and without identity except by race.  People of faith are called to a different and higher standard – loving God and wanting for our neighbor the best of what we want for ourselves, especially if that neighbor is perceived to be an enemy.

The Christian Right in America has abandoned its core doctrines of the sovereignty of God, the authority of Scripture, the Lordship of Christ and the presence of the eschatological Kingdom of God.  It needs to be challenged; it needs to be stopped on its mission of power and control.

Join us in this protest against the prostitution of the Christian faith and the destruction of freedom and liberty in America.
