I believe Sarah Palin was trying to be cutesy during the vice presidential debate, but running the country ain’t no beauty contest!
As I watched the vice presidential debate, I was struck by how common Sarah Palin appeared. While a part of her ability to be transparent appealed to me, another part of me said that Sarah Palin was too common and not presidential enough to lead this country! I am not sure if I would want someone so "common" representing me on the international issues and meeting with diplomats at all levels of government.
I think that Sara Palin needs to be polisted a bit more on all levels: socially, intellectually, and politically. Furthermore, her Alaska humor is not germane to mainstream America, and since the majority of the population have not been to Alaska, then her humor appears awkward at times and out of place at best.
That is not to say that Governor Palin has to get rid of who she is in order to be accepted by mainstream America, but it is to say that Sarah Palin needs to know how to function and communicate effectively in a myriad of settings and using a myriad of expressions. George W. Bush is more polished…and that’s saying a mouthful!
I believe that Governor Palin was trying to be cute during the debate, but being the chief executive office or serving as the second in command of a country like ours is no laughing matter! It is no time to be cutesy! After all, this ain’t no beauty contest. This is America. And, at this point in our history, we are facing some of the toughest economic times since the Great Depression in 1932; some 76 years later!
We need someone who is not divisive and polarizing. We need someone who is able to unite people and bring some of the greatest minds to the table to discuss how to get this economy back on track. We need someone who is committed to building up these Great Americas and not tearing them down through hate rhetoric. We need someone with brains to think about and work through the issues we are confronting on the war and the environment. If beauty is an added value, then so be it; however, this is not a beauty contest.
If we can take a page out of George W.’s book, then we know that the country can go only as far as the capacity of the leadership. If the leadership does not have the capacity or intellect to draw conclusions or deductions from past knowledge and historical trends, and if the leadership does not have the capacity to identify the appropriate people to sustain or overturn their assumptions in order to lead us down new paths, then our country will continue on a spiral downward.
In a nutshell…we need change and Barack Obama can bring that change! Yes…WE…Can!
