Don’t Just Stand There…Do Something!

Don’t Just Stand There…Do Something! 2013-05-09T06:07:20-06:00

Palin’s hate rhetoric is cause for concern and supspicion and should not be taken lightly in this post civil rights era.

"Do Something" is a national organization that supports teenagers by "insipiring, supporting and celebrating a generation of doers."  To be sure, DoSomething is a generation of "people who see the need to do something, believe in their ability to get it done, and then take action." [taken from www.dosomething.org]

When I think about Do Something, I think of Senator Barack Obama and his spirit of inspiring, supporting and celebrating others’ gifts.  He believes in investing in people and their communities, and teaching them how to take control of their own fate and destiny by "Doing Something" in their local communities, which necessarily expands out to the world.

That is my message to everyone who reads this blog today.  Please, before November 4, 2008, DO SOMETHING!  Volunteer to register people in your community; volunteer to make phone calls from your home; volunteer to drive people to the polls; commit to learning about Barack Obama’s policies and platform so that you can discuss it intelligently with others who may not know or who may be articulating erroneous information they may have received from conservative radio talk show hosts.

In this era of Palin-mania, it will become crucial for voters to examine her [deceiving] rhetoric to protect the family and patriotic values of America.  Guised under [a] "love for country" and [a] "Country First" campaign slogan, Palin is inciting hate among her conservative base and is attracting people to her rallies who are "time warped" and who have not moved beyond their 60s thinking of separate but equal!

Left unchecked, this type of campaigning can do the country and the people of this country more harm than good.  In fact, it could precipitate into a race war should Barack Obama be successful in his bid for the presidency!  All of the hate that has been bottled up and thus released through negative energy at Palin Klan rallies could unleash themselves on the country.

Do Something people!  We can’t sit idly by and allow this to happen.  We can’t get on the phone and simply rant and rave with our friends about what is occurring at the Palin rallies.  We can’t afford to forward negative emails and videos about Palin’s behavior and expect something different to happen on Election Day to change things.  No!  In order to effect change in the world, it will take action.

So, my message to you is "Don’t just stand there…Do Something!"

You have a right and a responsibility under the constitution and as a Christian to become involved in changing and shaping policy that will govern how we, as Christians, live our lives, especially if those policies are in direct conflict with what God expects of and from a civil society.

Make no mistake about it, McCain’s policies will once again favor the rich, the fat cats on wallstreet, much to the detriment of the poor.  In fact, the poor are being asked to bail out the fat cats on wallstreet by using their low wage earning salaries to pay approximately $5-7,000 toward a debacle that almost led to the collapse of our economy.

If the prophet Amos was among us today, he would say [and this is a contemporization of Amos 8:4-7]  "Listen up you Vipers who swallow up the needy, even to make the poor of the land fail…You are dishonest in your dealings with the poor in order to pad your pockets.  God has sworn by Himself that he will not forget any of your deeds."

So, the next time you think about getting angry with Palin about her hate rhetoric, call someone and ask them if they need a ride to the polls.  The next time you become incensed with Palin for perpetrating a fraud by falsely guising herself as a sweet, pious, angel of light, make sure that you volunteer to make calls for Obama.  The next time you think that you have had your fill of what is occuring during this campaign season, ask your friends to go to Obama’s website (http://www.barackobama.com) and make a donation toward the cause of liberation and hope!

People, pleeeaaaassssseeee.  I implore you….DON’T JUST STAND THERE, DO SOMETHING!
