Twas the Night Before Inauguration

(Based on the world famous Christmas poem)

Twas the night before Inauguration, when all through America

Not a Democrat or a Republican was stirring, not even an Independent.

The preparations were hung in Washington, D.C. with care,

In hopes that President-Elect Obama would soon be there.

The country was nestled all snug in anticipation,

While visions of a new economy danced in their heads.

And Obama in preparation for his Inauguration speech, and I counting down to history,Too excited to go to bed.

When out from the mall there arose such electricity,

From the South, the North, the East and the West.

They gathered from every corner of America,

All waiting for that historical moment.

The weather was cold and the wind was brisk in the capitol of the nation

But our hearts were warm with hope and inspiration.

When, what to our wondering dreams should appear,

But CNN, MSNBC and C-Span.

“Now Wolf! now, Soladad! now, Donna! and Donald!,

On, Rachel! On, Keith! On, on David! and Gloria!

To the top of the Lincoln Monument! To the top of the Capitol!

Now report away! Report away! Report to all of the world!

Preparations have been made,

Everything is in place.

Change is in the air,

I know that Obama will get us there!

It will take more than a twinkling of an eye,

We must bond together.

Native-Americans, African-Americans, White-Americans, Mexican-Americans

Hispanic-Americans, Chinese Americans, and ALL Americans!

We met him on the campaign trail,

He is tall and skinny.

He jokes that he has a funny name

We know that he is going to change the game.

His words are pure! His passion is powerful!

He is sharp! He is sure!

He neither stumbles nor stutters!

He causes our hearts to shudder!

He will take the podium after high noon,

And we will hear his words soon.

We will be listening with heart and mind,

But we must give him TIME!

A magic wand he does not have,

A quick fix is not in the cards.

Patience!

Prayer!

Tomorrow he will straight to work go,

Two wars and an edgy economy are at the door.

He is ready for the task

Because he does not wear a mask!

He has some help,

Joe, Hillary, Eric, Janet and others.

They will lift his shoulders,

We will lift him high.

Our image in the world he will change,

Just give him time.

From Europe to Asia,

From continent to continent, you will see!

He will spring to office,

After placing his hands on Lincoln’s Bible.

We will clap and we will cry, woman and man,

Then he will tell us, “YES WE CAN
