Proverbs 31:8 says, “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly and defend the rights of the poor and needy.” Even through disagreements, the common good of the welfare of people should always be something to bring us back to common ground.
In 2008, I worked for the John McCain campaign as a office volunteer and field worker! I was a republican and I worked very hard that whole year and leading up to the election. It was not until last year that my politics has change. I began to allow my values to shape my outlook on the government and the policy that was being put into place. I started to see how the Democrat Party cared about PEOPLE…and I started to change my views. I liked the thought of being a republican but in my heart I was a Democrat! As a republican, you learn to care about the party more than anything else. Being apart of the Democrat Party…I understand and see how they care about THE COMMON GOOD OF “ALL” PEOPLE…and that is what I also want to be known for. The great founders of this nation cared about people and wanted to create a nation that would allow everyone to have the American Dream! I still believe in the American Dream and that with hard work….you can achieve anything. We need to bring this nation back to the American Dream! Everything should not be about money and power but it should be about caring for our fellow brother and sisters!
As stated in the Constitution: “We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.” We cannot forget what this nation was founded on and why so many people has given their lives fighting for the freedoms that we have today. We must always be moving forward! We must always be creating a nation that allow equality! We must always be caring for the needs of the poor and seeking justice for those in need. Our lives should be to the service of our fellow man!
On the Women for Obama conference call yesterday with the First Lady Michelle Obama…she made this powerful statement: “Our votes are not just for Obama but there are for ourselves.” This next election will shape our nation and it is important for everyone to know and understand that their VOTE will have a powerful effect on the 2012 election outcome. We have to let our voices be known around the world….that we are supporting our President.
I am a Christian. My faith has always been the most important influence in my life. It is because I am a Christian FIRST that I am a Democrat! Jesus cared about people, so I care about the welfare of EVERY man and women of this nation not just the wealthy few. Jesus NEVER overlooked anyone when he was feeding and healing people in need…everyone who came to Him was given what they needed. Jesus never looked at a person’s race, color, sex or social class but he looked at their hearts. In the past 4 years…I have seen Obama SHOW that he cares about jobs for the common person, our economy, our health care system, the environment, national security, taxes, women health, education and equal rights. These are issues that are effecting every American citizen and our president has been making bold moves in order to make sure everyone has a seat at the table. Our nation is it strongest when it is united for the cause of PEOPLE!
Just as the great reformers of our American history allowed their faith and values to move them towards bold action, I am letting my faith and the values that I hold to shape my future and my 2012 presidential vote! I want to see everyone be able to reach their American Dream, have equality, and the freedom to choose.
