A new Baylor study shows a majority of evangelicals
hold "conservative" positions on certain issues like school prayer but liberal ones on social justice and the environment.
Baylor University released some additional findings from its Religion
Survey. While the survey confirmed that a majority of evangelicals
hold "conservative" positions on certain issues like school prayer (as
do many non-evangelicals, for that matter), it also presented several
key findings that might surprise many non-evangelicals — especially
secular liberals.
In their release, the Baylor Religion Survey notes:
• 50 percent of evangelicals think that the government should not fund faith-based organizations.
• 50 percent of evangelicals indicate that the government should distribute wealth more evenly in this country.
• 74 percent of evangelicals believe that it is very important to seek social and economic justice.
• 76 percent of evangelicals believe that the government should do more to protect the environment. "
