An Open Letter to North Carolina Voters

An Open Letter to North Carolina Voters 2013-05-09T06:07:37-06:00

Tar Heel voters came to the ballot and said that they would not be blindsided by the rogue Wright, the Clintonian back alley politics, "bittergate" or Republican television asteroids.

There is no question that leading up to the vote in North Carolina that Senator Obama experienced a very battle tested month. The forces of political reality seemed to hurl comets and meteorites at the Senator in hopes of burning up his presidential ambitions as he raced towards the Democratic nomination. The political soothsayers had declared North Carolina as the "Ides of May" so to speak. The newly minted poll of polls showed his Democratic opponent narrowing the gap and having moved within striking distance of making North Carolina the "game changer." The political pundits were pounding and piling on as they pointed out the problems that had been plaguing Senator Obama over the past month. Their forecast was gloomy at best and at worst something of a Greek Tragedy where things end in a fatality. Obama's opponents deployed their most able comet to fly across the Tar Heel state in the person of President Bill Clinton with a message that "we" are going to win North Carolina. While comet Bill lurked off the far beaten path of the major populous, residue from the comet sprinkled statewide with the message "we" are going to win North Carolina.

Then, something strange happened on the "Ides of May."

What happened? The voters of North Carolina voted for Senator Obama in larges numbers and gave him a crushing and convincing victory over his Democratic rival for the nomination. North Carolinians voted across every demographic for "CHANGE." A whopping 875,683 Tar Heel voters cast their ballots for the "Change" that Senator Obama offers America.

I want to thank the voters of North Carolina for:

  • Proving that white and black voters can cast their ballot for a common candidate that they believe can bring the "Change" that America so desperately needs.
  • Rejecting the asinine, belligerent, bellicose and vociferous statements of the Reverend Jeremiah Wright. In a CNN exit poll 79% of you who cast your ballot for Obama said that the Wright drama was not important at all.
  • Rejecting the notion that white women would not vote for Obama. According to multiple exit polls, you cast your votes for him from all corners of the Tar Heel state.
  • Rejecting the notion that blue collar workers would not vote for Obama. Again, exit polls show that you voted for him in larger numbers than Pennsylvania voters.
  • Rejecting the outlandish commercials that the Republican Party ran as timed character assassination attacks on Senator Obama trying to tie him to the wreckless Wright.
  • Rejecting the Clintonian dynastic power play in the final days of the campaign.

North Carolina you have once again proven that when America is tested in political times, Americans rise to the occasion. Tar Heel voters came to the ballot and said that they would not be blindsided by the rogue Wright, the Clintonian back alley politics, "bittergate" or Republican television asteroids. When you came to the polls, you voted your conscious and not the chaos. You voted your beliefs and not the bludgeoning. You voted for hope! You voted for the "CHANGE" that every American from every nook and cranny of our great country needs.

In my humble opinion you saved the Presidential ambitions of Senator Barack Obama. His campaign was at a critical and crucial crossroads. There is no doubt in my mind that a narrow victory or a loss in the Tar Heel state would have crippled and almost doomed Obama's campaign. Yet, you came to the ballot box almost a million strong to cast your vote for Senator Obama. This was make or break for Obama and you made it for him. Your votes sealed the nomination for him. You did the right thing! You sent a message to America that says we can unite and dismiss the detractions. You sent a message that voters are smart and decisive. You sent a message that America needs to elect Senator Barack Obama as her next President.

Thank you North Carolina and you deserve to have the hottest tickets to the Inauguration balls and a few sears on the front row at the Inauguration.

Sincerely,

Pastor Kenneth Walker, M. Div.
