For those who see abortion as a problem to address rather than a symbol to wield for partisan gain, the Democrats' abortion reduction bill should be welcomed as real progress. (more…) Read more
Recently, I did a television interview about the Iraq Memorial Quilt. When asked what inspired me, I said, "well, I believe, God inspired me to make this quilt," and then went on to tell why I believed that. When the news piece came out on TV, it began as "…….doesn't know why she made the quilt". See video clip at www.iraqmemorialquilt.com. (more…) Read more
File this one under walking the walk. For decades, Republicans have made opposition to abortion the foundation of their national coalition. Strangely, though, they haven’t actually passed anything particularly significant to reduce the number of abortions in the U.S. The Democrats, however — long demonized for being “pro-abortion” — have now passed an initiative in the House of Representatives to cut down on the abortion rate. Here is what the President said, in part, about health care: (more…) Read more
Rev. Barry Lynn has his heart in the right place, I think: he’s wary of religion overstepping its bounds in the public square. But as the director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, he seems a bit too eager to slam the legitimate incorporation of faith into politics. A Dallas Morning News article from this past weekend quotes Lynn chiding presidential candidates for stepping up the faith talk this election: “When you have Democrats and... Read more
Sorry to be so blunt, but Cal Thomas is a liar. He may be a good guy. He’s made as much in God’s image as I am. But he’s still a liar. I’m referring specifically to a column that Cal wrote on Hillary Clinton’s faith. It’s a response to an excellent New York Times rundown of how Christianity has shaped Hillary’s life and political views. The purpose of the column is to expose Hillary’s faith as something...
