Josh Duggar and Anna Duggar have paid me the ultimate compliment by naming their third kid Marcus. Josh and Anna are following Duggar tradition by giving all their kids names that start with the same letter – Marcus’ older siblings are Mackynzie and Michael. Like his older siblings, Marcus will have his birth featured on television – TLC is airing promos for a Father’s Day-themed episode in which Anna goes into labor. Let’s hope that she didn’t have to give... Read more

Two Vampire Weekend posts in like a month? Who am I? Anyway, the band has yet another video with spiritual elements. This time it’s for their single “Diane Young.” In the video, the band, plus fellow musicians like Santigold, Sky Ferreira, and Chromeo create a sort of neo-hipster Last Supper. It’s pretty, even if the song’s not as good as “Oxford Comma.” Read more

Michelle Duggar‘s sister Kathie Ruark Arnold passed away in March. Michelle is the youngest child in her family and stayed behind to marry Jim-Bob Duggar when the rest of her family relocated to Ohio. There were one or two episodes of 19 Kids and Counting where Michelle visited her Ruark relatives, but for the most part they haven’t been featured on the show – this could be simply because of geography (although Ohio is way closer than Jerusalem or Tokyo,... Read more

For some reason, a producer for the film Twilight thought it would be a great idea to get Frances Bean Cobain, daughter of Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love, to play the female lead in the movie. Frances isn’t an actress and has mostly stayed out of the spotlight as an adult (which – good on her). Courtney told Howard Stern that when Frances got the offer to play Bella, she turned it down, saying that Twilight was “a sexist Mormon... Read more

Recently, we reported on the news that Josh Duggar, oldest kid of the 19 Kids and Counting clan, was moving his young family to DC to take a job working in politics. The news was confirmed on the TLC reality show recently, and it looks like Josh is spiffing up his online presence as he gets ready to take a job he’s completely unqualified for. First up: a LinkedIn page. I’ve always wondered how you write a resume when you’ve... Read more

I think of Vampire Weekend as a disaffected art rock band, but do they have a spiritual side? Their latest single, “Ya Hey” (a pun on one of the Jewish names for G-d, Yahweh) contains quite a few spiritual lyrics, like “Zion doesn’t love you/and Babylon don’t love you,” and refers to whoever “you” is as a “saint.” The video is deliberately oblique, just showing people (mostly wearing muslin wraps that look like togas, or standing in front of the... Read more

Well, damn. Tim Lambesis, lead singer of the Christian heavy metal band As I Lay Dying, has been accused of putting out a hit on his estranged wife. Tim and his wife Meggan Lambesis separated last year and were in the process of getting a divorce. The San Diego, CA police department deserves the credit here: when they got a tip about Tim’s actions, they put together a sting operation and busted him trying to hire an undercover police officer... Read more

The amazing Tilda Swinton appeared at the Roger Ebert Film Festival earlier this week, and she led what she called a “spiritual service” – a dance party to the tunes of Barry White. If Tilda tells you to dance with her, then you freaking dance with her. Read more

The four oldest Duggar daughters – Jana, Jill, Jessa, and Jinger – have ‘written’ a book about their lives, which will be published in November by Howard Books, a Christian company. The title is Growing Up Duggar: The Duggar Girls Share Their View of Life Inside American’s Most Well-Known Super-Sized Family. It’s a little too early for the book to have cover art or a description yet, but if this book is anything like the other previous Duggar books, it... Read more
