Star Trek — the prequel to the reboot. November 24, 2008

TrekMovie.com has some new info on Star Trek: Countdown, the four-part comic-book mini-series that will serve as a prequel to J.J. Abrams’ upcoming Star Trek movie — and they have the following promotional image for the mini-series, too:

The mini-series will apparently be set in the 24th century, before Spock follows the Romulan villain Nero into the past and reboots history. And it looks like the mini-series will also take place prior to Star Trek: Nemesis (2002), since it seems Data is still alive when this story happens. (That can’t be B-4 in the poster’s upper-right corner, right?) But the 24th-century portion of the new movie could still take place after Nemesis, since it looks like the mini-series will revolve around a slightly younger version of Nero; note, for example, how the comic-book version of Nero has none of the tattoos that the movie version of Nero has.

If, however, it turns out that Spock and Nero do go into the past before Nemesis takes place, and that they then proceed to reboot history in the 23rd century (or earlier!), would it then follow that Nemesis never happened, not even on the original timeline? I’m sure some fans wouldn’t mind if that were the case!
