Christian Bale isn’t the only actor to play Moses in the last few months.
Variety reports that a telenovela called Moses and the 10 Commandments — or Os Dez Mandamentos, to use the original title — aired in Brazil last month, and did fairly well in the ratings to boot. The series “was shot in Rio de Janeiro, Israel, Egypt and Chile for $233,000 an episode, high by Brazilian standards.”
Os Doz Mandamentos is at least the fifth Bible-themed series to be made for Brazilian television in recent years, following A História de Ester in 2010, Sansón y Dalila in 2011, El Rey David in 2012 and José de Egipto in 2013.
I haven’t watched any of these shows, and I don’t know that I’d have time to, since some of them can be pretty long. (There are 38 episodes on Joseph alone!)
Plus, I have no idea if it’s even possible to find them with English subtitles.
But in the meantime, for those who are interested, here are some trailers — and no, the trailers don’t come with English subtitles either:

July 2 update: I was just reminded, while skimming through some old posts at Matt Page’s Bible Films Blog, that a miniseries about Elijah called O Desafio de Elias also aired on Brazilian TV in 1997. I can’t find a trailer for it, but here’s an excerpt:
Matt also notes that another version of A História de Ester aired on Brazilian TV in 1998. I can’t find a trailer for that one either, but here’s a short clip:
