No atheists in Foxx-holes? (Bad pun, I know.)

No atheists in Foxx-holes? (Bad pun, I know.)

The Hollywood Reporter (via Reuters) reports:

Jamie Foxx is producing and may star in “The Power of Duff,” a drama that has been a hot property at Universal.

The project follows a Rochester, N.Y., TV news anchor who after the death of his father begins praying aloud for things to happen while reading the evening news. When his prayers start coming true, it ignites controversy about whether he’s a prophet, a pundit or a charlatan.

Universal won Stephen Belber‘s script in a bidding war last year, paying a $900,000 advance. The script attracted Russell Crowe and Ron Howard at one point as well as Tom Hanks. . . .

News anchor? Prayers coming true? This sounds just a wee bit like Bruce Almighty (2003; my review; my Bible study).

And while I wouldn’t want to make too much of this, I do think it’s interesting to note that Belber’s script attracted some of the key people who went on to make The Da Vinci Code. Does that give us any hint as to the sensibility of Belber’s script? Haven’t a clue.

And is it just me, or does the title of this film remind anyone else of a certain teen pop star and/or a certain fictitious brand of beer?
