Heads up, Canadian Bible movie fans.
A movie about the earthly parents of Jesus is currently being shot in northern Ontario — and it will soon be followed by a film about the apostle Peter.
Details are sparse, but there was a call for extras last week for a movie called Joseph & Mary, which is currently being shot in North Bay, Ontario. The film is directed by Roger Christian of Battlefield Earth fame, and it stars Kevin Sorbo of God’s Not Dead fame — though it has not yet been revealed who Sorbo is playing.
What we do know is that the film is being produced by Leif Bristow, who produced a movie called Saul: The Journey to Damascus last year. That film co-starred John Rhys-Davies as Caiaphas, and it seems Rhys-Davies might be involved with this film too. (I interviewed Rhys-Davies last year on the set of Killing Jesus.)
Other actors known to be involved with this film are Lara Jean Chorostecki, who is playing a “lead” role — possibly Mary herself? — as well as Steven Love, who is playing “King Antipas”, and Steven McCarthy, who is playing “Rabbi Elijah”.
After this, filmmakers will get cracking on Apostle Peter: The Redemption.
I have not seen Saul: The Journey to Damascus, but you can watch a trailer here:
